motive is everything, especially in art, irrespective of a viewer's perception, as this defines whether the viewer is an art appreciator or just a fool. (imo)
If this was the case, and it was a widly held beliefe that it was impossible to view, understand, or appreicate art w/o knowing the intent than every art museam in the world would have a "statement of intent" next to a given peice in order to help the mere "fools" comprehend the ivory tower meaning of artistic hermunitics. Moreover, it would also mean that anything ever created, from present day to the ancient world, where intent was unknowbale, would collapse when trying to place the term "art" on it. This is clearly not the case. Art, like mythology, finds its essential being in the fact that we can breath life, and thus meaning, into it. Otherwise, art would hard, stiff, and stuck in time and place. In short, it would cease to be art, and be transfered into math.
