my season might be done .....

just found out what is wrong with my knee::: baker's cyst, erosions of the patellar cartilage at the apex and extending into the lateral facet, irregularity of the free edge of the body of the medial meniscus and tiny tear at the free edge is suspected and finally prepatellar bursitis....

i wish i could see my doc but its going to be 2 more weeks until i can get in i am just so sad right now :(

Bless you!

Geeze that is a long list. I have busitis in my right knee. Actually the bursa (sp?) pad is ruptured. Gets all puffy when I bang on it, but otherwise no problems. The Meniscus tear is more of a concern. My guess is, if you can live with it, you can ride out the season. If it's really bothering you, go under the knife. The recovery time for the meniscus is relatively short, but there isn't a lot of season left either.

You're probably not going to do anything worse to it by going out and riding. Again, it's a comfort thing...

So much for the marathon eh?

i have been riding on it and it is painful when i hike or have to kick (it is my back leg when i ride) going up and down stairs is extreamly painful, I look like an old lady.

when i get more information ill let you know whats up. next doc appointment is on monday ...

oh and i move on sat into my new place at colorado and mississippi :-D (no shawn)

punkster - it is an interesting comparison between your's and my health care systems....

i have what feels like an occasionally achy, dicky knee.

aside from waiting 9 months for a physio to give it a tweak, whilst your quack lists off a ream of things which all sound scary, mine just said (eventually), 'take an anti-inflammatory and do some hopping exercises'.

i am not sure which is worse, 'your' apparent overkill, or 'my' apathy.... are you sure they are not telling porky pies to justify and sustain an income?

maybe you should chomp a few ibuprofen and try plyometrics?

Paolo's got a point... I've done that and it's helped. I've also got a bad knee

Punkmouse 02-19-2008 10:06 AM

haha paolo ... this had to be the most painful thing i have gone through .... it feels like someone is stabbing me in my knee. I have tried everything from strength building for my quads and taking anti-inflametory meds. They tried putting steroids in my knee to help with the swelling but the pain is still there. Imagine when you are hiking and every time you put your foot down it feels like someone is stabbing you in the knee. Or not able to walk up and down stairs with out loads of pain.... This is the 3 time with this knee.... 1st time I dislocated the knee cap and bruised the bone underneath 2nd time around I found out I have runner's knee which to put it the easiest way my knee cap is rubbing on my bone and I have some bone loss because of this :-( and the last time is when all of this shit started. Bad knees run in my family. And trust me if I could just go to the pharmacy and take some advil and be done with it I would because I have to pay for some of this out of my pocket....

Ok time to get back to work and nurse this hang over from my bottle of wine that I drank last night ... Did the trick I didn't think about my knees all last night :-)

well sadly yes, i know that patella getting switch bladed feeling. altho not bad right now, it comes and goes in severity and i fear that severity is on the increase.

right now i give just underneath the patella a quick rub (around the patella tendon) and it goes away; but today, following hockey last night, stair climbing is a fucking bitch!

but the doctor keeps telling me he'll sort out an MRI (been 12months and counting almost) and the physio recommended ibuprofen and exercise.

if i would wish to suggest anything, it is this: doctors can make mistakes and alternative and on going avenues of resolution should be explored. seasons ought not be written off coz when they're gone, they're gone. do what you can and drink less wine :D

Well the good news is, I am pretty sure there will be a season next year.

The bad news, this is one of the best we have had in years...
