skull candy = toy garbage. alot of so called audio is just shit...I hate when my daughter uses her i=piece-of-shit on the stereo...its fucking lifeless 1 dimensional digital crap. Its too bad that younger folks have never listened through tube preamp stereo to set of monoblocks and maggies. Get some real headphones those small sony are ok but they are not over the ear, senniheisers are fine or find some old akg 240's (my set is 20 yrs old) they were the standard for years and they still hold up ok. But if you are using an ipod shit...it doesn't matter so much...fill yo ears with shitty frizz.

Are these for on or off mountain use or both? If they are going to be used on mountain at all, I wouldn't suggest noise cancelling for on-ear style headphones.

Cheap on ear options(<$50): Kicker HP201 (best bass and sound quality I've heard, blow away Skullcandy Icon2, Aerial7 Metro), Nixon Whip (decent quality, a bit fragile), Urbanears Tanto or Plattan (both have 40mm drivers, one is low profile one is a bit bulkier).

Even when riding, I can hear a difference on my iPhone. The Skullcandies have noticeably worse fidelity even with the noise of riding and the Aerial7 are just thin and weak. The HP201 might not be home theatre quality but for 30mm drivers, they can put out some decent sound which is noticeably better than those other two.

House of Marley has some sick options but they're a bit bulkier and might not be as easy to ride with. I'm hoping to get some this season to demo.

Edit: I'm also hoping to demo some of Skullcandy's 40mm driver options like the Lowrider, Hesh and GI because I've heard the sound quality is a bit better and you can find them pretty cheap online. My comments about Skullcandy are limited to the Icon2/Icon.

It's tough to get a really good pair of over the ear cans for <$100. In the sub $100 price range, there's far better options with earbuds. The JVC Marshmallows are a great value at $20ish but fit is hit or miss.

My cans are the Pbilips/O'Neill The Stretch. MSRP is like $80 but I nabbed them on sale at Best Buy for half of that. Sound quality is just decent, but they're very comfortable and very tough.

Try going into your local music stores and see what they have.

Being geared towards recording/studios even the cheap (talkin like 30-40 bucks) off brands can have impressive quality.

EDIT: Just make sure you don't forget a 1/4" -> 1/8" adapter if you need it though.

Mine just went out and I got a new pair... have used them 3 times on the slopes at neg temps. I got skull candy -- i think they are the smokin buds. They have adjustments a few inches below the right bud thats play/pause/volume/track forward and backward. I can use it fine with my burton mittens and since they arent halfway down the headphone line ... i can actually adjust it easily. Working well so far. They were priced wrong so I ended up getting them $20 cheaper... plus the $6 warrenty because i go through shit like that like nobodys business.
