Default The word 'douche'

I see it used in these forums a fair bit and thought I should give a heads up. The word 'douche' is simply the French word for 'shower'. That is, the thing that sprays water and you stand under it to wash yourself. In other words, if you call someone a douche intending to insult them, you are not. Now a douche bag, well that is something you use in the douche to wash yourself, like a sponge, not insulting either.

You would not want to be a douche bag if they are being used properly.

Also it actually works both ways.

"A douche /ˈduːʃ/ is a device used to introduce a stream of water into the body for medical or hygienic reasons, or the stream of water itself."

Living in Belgium for the last 9 months, where 2 of the 3 official languages are Dutch and French, I hear it used whenever someone is stating that they are about to go take a simple shower. To be honest, I'm not actually sure of the official definition. It seems that words get twisted and misused over time and the true definition is lost. I am trying to learn Dutch, it's my wife's first language, but I am getting more and more confused as time goes by. At least she is fluent in English, among other languages.

Faggot at one point referred to small sticks used as kindling before being later redefined, through a concept called common usage, to refer to one who gathered said materials or performed other menial, laborious work to eek out a meager existence. Gay once meant someone of a good-natured disposition.

Look at the Spanish language throughout Latin America. Anyone who has studied Spanish knows there's huge differences in regional diction, slang, usage and phrasing. "Pinche" is an obscenity in Mexico ("pinche baboso" ~ "fucking moron") but roughly means "spiny" or "pointy" throughout the rest of Latin America. Common usage means the meanings of these words changes, that semantics and syntax are not gridlocked. Linguists who don't know jack about etymology commonly try to make the point you are. Words aren't "twisted" and their definitions aren't "lost".

And thus, you're a gay, faggot douche canoe.

I speak french and yes it means shower, but isn't a douchbag a washing device people use to clean each others assholes before penetration, so there isn't any poo residue on your cock.

Plenty of words have alternate meanings. The word gay has been used to reference a sinful lifestyle for hundreds of years. Faggot came from gays being burned alive like common kindling for their sins. Douchebag may have roots in French cleaning practices (yeah, I'm surprised there is such a thing, too), but it changed to mean an unattractive person decades ago. Now, because it isn't censored in the way many other words are, it's used all over television.

Language changes. Words rarely hold the same meaning forever. Remember when bad used to mean good? I mean, if you combine "bad" and "ass" you somehow get a compliment.
