well, i only spent one summer there - Sydney & Byron Bay mostly.... far more impressed by their ability to drink than to BBQ. 'quing is about smoking meat. not grilling it.. they are two different things.

Did you actually try the BBQ in Texas? I lived in Dallas, San Antonio, and Corpus Christi for some years. They have legitimately good BBQ. But you have to remember, there are a TON of variations. I too like it sweet and tangy. But I am also a sucker for anything fruit loops sweet. But yea, a good tangy and sweet trumps the fruity ones.
Anyone like dry rubs? I'm starting to like those. But I'd forgo any American BBQ for a good Korean BBQ Ribs. I'm obviously biased though

I will say people in the West IMO do not know BBQ. People here love their brisket. Beef who wants that crap? Give me pulled pork or pork ribs any day. Texas BBQ is a joke, and yes I have had it in Texas as well.

I love Hawaiian BBQ. Very similar to Korean. If you're in a CO, there's a decent one called L&L over in Aurora near Alameda and Sable.

steaks, hamburgers, hotdogs - not BBQ. that is grilling BBQ = Smoke required, low temp/long timing cooking. we have to draw a line in the sand somewhere. you can put barbecue sauce on a hamburger or steak that you grilled, but that doesn't make it BBQ... if you smoke a steak for 8 hours, then i'll give it to ya... BBQ
