Default College..

Ok so I'm getting out of the Marine Corps in 4-6 months, and I'm planning on going to school, but I'm having a hard time deciding where to go so I am exhausting all resources (including this forum) to help me decide. If anyone has any suggestions or good info I'd really appreciate it.

I am originally from Wisconsin, but I have been living in so cal for going on 4 years. I only have interest in 1 school back home, and if i don't get accepted there I really don't think I'll be returning..

Anyways, I've assembled a small list of schools that I AM interested in (I'd be lying if I said the opportunity to ride wasn't at least a factor in picking, but it's definitely not my top priority) and hopefully we have some alums or locals or something on here who can give me a little insight on the schools. I have never lived in any other states and I don't know any of the smaller schools in those areas, so feel free to post suggestions. Here they are:

U of Wisconsin - Madison
U of Washington - Seattle
U of Oregon - Eugene
U of Colorado - Boulder
U of California - Santa Barbara
Arizona State
San Diego State

ASU and Oregon have tons of hot girls. ASU is a party school so you probably are still down to throw a few brews back? What about University of Utah? There are tons of Wisco kids that live here.

It depends on what your goals are. If getting a good education with a noteworthy degree is important, Wisconsin is a great school. One of the best public universities in the country. UC-SB is a good school. So is CU (though definitely not in UW's league). Arizona State is a joke. No offense to anyone who may have went there.

Fuck take that G.I. Bill and move to a mountain town with a community college, abuse the fuck out of it, party, bang mountain chicks, get a disease, realize your G.I. Bill is gone but you have memories, shred on.

Like Wrath I would pick the school that has the best education in that degree.

What is your Major going to be, you didn't mention that. Also are you looking into Graduate School as well. That can be a factor.

Welcome back, fellow WI 'ite

I guess I would be leaning towards secondary education, which I've noticed a ton of schools have, but that's mostly because I have no idea WTF else there is I could do.. Part of why I signed up haha. Thanks for the input everyone

My synopsis of your choices:

The pointbreak at UCSB is my home spot, learned to surf there in highschool as a Goleta boy. Its an amazing location for school.

I chose to enjoy everything at college, and studies were on equal footing with girls, partying and surfing, skating and snowboarding (although I didnt get to ride much back then, I DID see Malcom Jamal Warner at Mountain High in like 1996 haha).

So if extra curricular activities are a concern, Wisconsin would be a terrible choice. (unless you just love that Midwest outdoors - humid hot or humid cold)

I would rule out UCSD because of the population density of the entire region, UCSB gets you just outside of it.

I would rule out UCBoulder because of the wealthy hippies and stinky trustafarians and healthy beggars and cuz I hate Boulder.

Oregon and Washington would be cool with lots of mountain access, it rains alot there.

Arizona will be hot and great for golfing.

Drunk college girls are everywhere, even at mountain town city colleges

FWIW becoming a teacher is about as good of a job as any other in the service industry like restaurant and hotel work. The country is in the process of royally screwing the education sector even worse than it already was because of the economic crisis begun in '08. Because nobody important stands up for it, politicians on both sides of the party lines take chunks out of education, and they do this on the local level all the way to Washington DC. Most of us know that education is important, but where is it on the radar of election discussion? IMO it is the most important thing, and yet I digress...all 3 of my siblings are teachers....GL..
