Can someone run me a CARFAX for $10? - Snowboarding Forum

I have the VIN for a car, and I won't have money on my debit card until tomorrow morning when I get paid. Can someone run the VIN and I'll Paypal them $10 tomorrow?

Or if someone can tell me just to stay away from it and save me the money, it's a 2002 Acura RL with 147,000 miles. Check Engine Lights on for an oil change, going to have my mechanic look it over tomorrow. Needs rear brakes, and struts might need to be done soon.

But for $3500, I feel like I can't go wrong. If you can help me out, PM me for the VIN.

Yup... check engine light will not come on if you need an oil change. Make sure your mechanic has the equipment to see what codes the engine is throwing.

If you meant the maintenance required light... then thats a different story. Those come on every 7.5k miles as a reminder to idiots to service their car. That can be reset with no tools.

Yo man just repeating what the guy told me.... I have a feeling it's something else since the price is pretty low. Not sure if it was CTL or Maintenance...

not sure if that car has a timing belt or a timing chain, but at that mileage if it hasn't been done already it needs it and that is usually something like $800-$1500

He said it was maintained, but at 7:30pm I wouldn't have been able to see shit if he popped the hood. I just wanted to see if the fax mentioned the belt being replaced, the last one I looked at did. The exterior had some scratches, but no dents. Only problem with the interior was the armrest being pretty worn out, half the leather was gone.

But I just need to know it's mechanically sound before jumping on it. And we only did some city driving, couldn't get it out of traffic and let it fly.

According to Edmunds, the EVAP bypass solenoid tends to go on these a bit. That's only a hundred dollar fix, guess that's all I can hope for at the moment.

Just drive it to a Pepboys or Autoparts place. Most have a tool loan program. You can borrow a code reader and plug it in right there in the parking lot.

It's an Acura in Upstate NY which means that under the wheel wells it's rusting out. Inside the fenders are probably fucked as well. Then there's the whole exhaust on that car and I bet it's not looking pretty. The Mileage is about average for where it's at but that check engine light can mean anything go snag the code reader. Also if those are the original struts OK but if they've been replaced which I'm going to guess they are that's a clue as to rust issues. Just go look at it in the daylight. Although I will say he's charging about 1,500 too much for a car with those small list of issues.

No it wasn't...no respectful well maintained car would be for sale with that light on. If he maintained it well he would have driven it to a speedy lube or changed it himself rather than having a potential buyer come look at a car with a message on the dash saying "change your oil"
If it was maintained he would have a receipt for the timing belt being changed. It is was maintained he would have put new brakes on it to make the car more marketable.

That is also the generation that had tons of tranny issues so that must be looked into very closely~!!!!!

Next, light or dark outside, once you pop the hood there is enough light to see how filthy or clean the engine bay is. Dirty is not maintained, you could eat off mine but that is me.

Worn interior is not an issue, its an armrest that sees the arm the entire time your in the car, junk yard item.

if you do decide to buy it after doing a mechanical check-up i'd offer him $2000 and in the end pay no more than 2500.

show him the cash and if he says no then turn around and walk away.

no one but an assclown tries to sell a car with a check engine light on.
