Just saying. I think it sucks and will donate to the relief fund as usual.

It is prone though. Two years in a row. Maybe not as prone, but I can look back 20 years and find several examples.

Most populated area eh? That wasn't an excuse for the Japanese now was it?

Regardless, I am glad it seems our EC members came out of this okay. This could have been a lot worse loss of life wise. Seems that most people listened to the warnings and either evacuated or hunkered down in a safe spot. Lot's of property and business damage for sure. I don't envy the task ahead. That is for sure.

First day of the year I don't know how much of piste ill do. I do have a old boards tho if it is in question. I believe I saw they had some snow guns on before the storm. I don't know if they were just prepping them or what not but they may have a decent base on the main runs.

not trying to minimize the deaths or the storm, but just to add some perspective: in Katrina over 1,800 people died in an area with far less population. obviously very different situations but something to think about...

Wow. Now knowing how the storm turned out, this might be the one of the dumbest posts I've ever seen. Argo - c'mon man. Why even make the effort to write stuff like this?

This storm could have very easily had a Katrina like death toll. So glad it didn't. The loss of life is minimal, but tell that to the families involved. The destruction is jaw dropping. Picking up the pieces is where the real work starts. This will take years to set right.

The Christie-Obama relationship is refreshing. Wish we could see more of that during normal times.

Here in CNY the damage has been pretty minimal. I know a couple FDNY guys and a few Long Island firefighters and they've been extremely busy. Some of the pictures they've sent me are crazy.

The Ithaca Fire Department's swift water rescue team went before the storm to stand-by and prep. I am very good friends with one of the guys on the team and they were super busy. They made 60+ saves... I'm extremely proud of them.

My department is deploying a few people (myself included) to the region to help out fighting fire as well as search and rescue operations. I'll keep you guys as updated as I'm able to.

life IS good.

I know Ontario has sent a bunch of people down the help restore power and to rebuild. Also, the TTC has sent many techs to help repair the subway...

goodluck and recover quickly!

Yeah, a bunch of friends of mine with Ottawa Hydro got the call late that night to pack the trucks and get moving.

Around here, we all remember how many Vermont, New Hampshire and New York plated repair trucks showed up the day after the '98 Ice Storm.

Geo-politics aside, this is what neighbours do
