So basically my old man is starting to ask me what I want for X-mas and I am a little lost on what to get. I am thinking some type of gear, but I am a little torn on what to get. I do not need the following, board, bindings, boots, jacket, helmet, gloves, backpack, face-mask. I kind of need pants, but I already know what pants I want and I am pretty sure my wife is hooking me up. So really all I can think of is goggles or a cam. And while a cam may be cool I question how much I will use it or really do anything with the footage. So in the end I am looking to you guys to provide me some ideas! Thank you.

That is a great idea and I agree with it, only thing is I will probably be getting a day or two at Baldface for free through work. Actually, I might end up there is weekend or next to do some work, but we will be bringing our boards and skis just in case...lol

I'm kind of surprised you don't think you would use a camera. I'd ask for the new Go Pro Hero 3 - Black version with everything.
We use our Go Pro Hero 2 (we actually have 2 Go Pro Heros wide and 1 Go Pro Hero 2 with wifi and remote) on EVERYTHING. My husband made a rotating 360 degree mount for our Goldwing - get some awesome videos with it while riding. We have made a ski rope handle for waterskiing an wakeboarding - got some awesome videos waterskiing from the handle we made which shows us from the top of our head to the bottom of the skis. We have attached it to our paddleboards - the paddles and the boards itself and have some great videos. My husband rigged up a collapsable handle and we take it on hikes and use it on our snowboarding trips. We also rigged up a shoe mount and used it along with the helmet strap for ziplining. Even rigged it up to our innertubes rafting down the Kern River this summer thru the rapids. I have made 15 minute videos or so of all our trips so 20 years from now we can remember what all we used to do! My vote is for the Go Pro. Just my 2 cents......

But honestly, the answer is clear: Send that shit to Red-Cross to help out the people struggling to stay alive right now thanks to Super-Storm Sandy. Fuck a GoPro, people are hurting yo!

if you don't already have avy knowledge and tools that is what i would do if i were you. see if you can find a level 1 class that supplies beacons for the class so you can try the different models before you buy one. get a shovel with a bigger blade rather than smaller.
spend the money on your skills rather than just searching for some random piece of gear to buy..
