It's actually happy winter solstice... Long before the pagans took it they celebrated the start of longer days!

True, but wouldn't pagans go back to basically any belief before organized religion?

Exactly! Although still waiting for this great winter the northeast was supposed to have. Saw a bit of snow last night though. Maybe I should just sacrifice someone, today would be a great day me thinks.

I think that should have read: Long before the Christians took it..

Yes, xmas was moved to coincide with Midwinter festivals, which just about every culture has celebrated.

Anyway, I'm an atheist too but I don't get all twisted about "Christmas". Sure it's based on a religious festival, but the holiday has a huge secular component nowadays. I even sing carols like "Silent Night" because I like them. And because my singing can drive a bagpiper to suicide
