One of the car forums I used to be on frequently, had a private pw protected women's only sub-forum. Surprisingly it was pretty popular among the female car enthusiast's and even the wives/gf's of members who weren't even that into cars. That could potentially be a draw here as well. I'm not sure exactly how the verification process worked, but there was some form of it handled directly by admins or super-mods.
