Yeah I think the Oatmeal is hilarious! We were lucky in our highschool, we had a bit of a mad scientist electronics/biology teacher who had a full scale Tesla coil in the classroom, along with a large power supply that could feed anywhere from 1-200V AC or DC right to little knobs on our desks. We also had a jacobs ladder that was fun to play with.
I remember that tesla coil it was about 12 feet high at it's highest point, the top ball was about 2.5 feet in diameter. There was a glass plate capacitor that was about 16" square. It made a really cool sound when running, and then the teacher would hold a 4' flourescent tube light up the the coil and it would light up in his hand!!! Cool shit! ![]() Of course most geniuses lived in poverty in their later years... Too bad! |

But the real criminal is of course JP Morgan. Edison was just envious of Tesla's genius. Morgan took advantage of both. And as usual profited like a pig.

His wireless power system failed because it was impractical and incredibly inefficient. Most of the energy would get fired off into space.
Free wireless energy? What makes you think you wouldn't pay for it another way?

I'll tell you when I finish the book I'm reading about him. My point was that the story we know is mostly corporate bullshit. Well 'Merican corporate bullshit to be precise. Really hard not to feel a bit ashamed.

Capital/corporate america is responsible for almost everything that comprises our standard of living today. Were there isolated instances of travesty throughout our history? Sure.
But you're typing on a corporate owned snowboarding forum, through a corporate developed internet (yes I know gov't invented the framework for the internet but it wasn't viable until commercialized), riding a corporate made snowboard, etc. etc. Hell, you have a corporate owned property in your name! ![]() Yes Tesla's tech was probably better than Edison's but Edison's is better than none. I'm just saying, all this hate against corporate america when 99.9% of our lives are basically dependent on corporate america. There are greedy people out there of course, and they should be stopped and punished. |
