GPS Snowboader!!!
3 Attachment(s)
So I have been looking into getting a GPS for a while, since every time I travel I end up paying like $5-$10 a day extra for the rental of the GPS (not that I need them all the time, but they make traveling easier on tight schedules). In the past I got a TomTom for $330 and in my opinion that brand sucks, the first time it got me lost in upstate New York and the second time it made a 5 hour trip into a 7 hour trip because it decided to take some country roads. They just have a horrible sense of direction and I found some maps to be outdated (I ended up returning it to the store). Well this time I ended up getting a Garmin Nuvi 200 for $169.00 new, not bad, it's a basic system, but it has some cool things plus Garmin is usually pretty reliable.

1. it has the option of human mode and I think it should be great to record top speeds snowboarding and average moving speeds too.

2. it also has elevation and coordinates, I found that to be pretty cool.

You can also download different icons to represent the car, and guess what? they have a snowboarder  and they don't have a skier :cheeky4:. And so it looks riding is getting more popular than skiing ever was .
He's a bit funny looking though

Hey I saw your avatar on TV the other day "the world ugliest dog" right? is it the same one?

Cool avatar BTW, I like it.

Yes I am going to be taking my GPS to my next trip, fortunately I don't have to wait till next season. I depart next Monday to Mt.Hood for 4 days, going to be riding Timberline for 3 of those days. I will post whatever results the GPS gives me after riding for a day, lets see how good it works in human mode.

Well I land Monday at noon I think, so I am going to take that day off and drive around Portland and i-84 and stuff. Then I plan on riding tue, wed and thurday, my plane takes of thurday night. I am staying in Welches to be a little closer to the slopes than Sandy. So we could meet like wed or thurs. My cel is only local, so I bought a travel phone it should be here any day now, as soon as I activate it, I will let you know the number.

I have a Mio C320 (?) and it's only "ok"... but I found on line that somene had come up with added features by exploiting the fact that it has a SD card slot and runs windows CE.. now I have all kinds of cool stuff on it.

I also have a Garmin Forerunner 201. It's basiacally for fitness training, but I've brought it up on the mtn with me and had it track my day. I can then take the days runs and view them on their software and actually see my speed, altitude changes and have it all plotted on a map.. pretty cool.
