I finally bit the bullet and upgraded my windows Laptop from vista ( crap ) to Xp sp2. My Laptop is so much faster, its sick.

My specs are a Hp Dv6350

AMD Turion 64 bit 1.60 Gz dual core
2.5 gigs of ram
Nivida Ge Force 6150 with 580 megs of Shared ram.


Before if i restarted my Pc which was loaded with Vista it would take 3-8 mins to load. Now it takes about 1-3 mins at most with XP SP2.

I recommend to anyone to Upgrade to Xp sp 2 and get rid of the resource hog that is known as Vista.

Says someone who doesnt know how to tune a system. I run vista at home on all machines and laptops. I also run it on my work laptops. Never have any issues, everything runs lightening fast. including booting up.

Vista is complete nightmare, and last i heard there are alot of people jumping ship. I do sense a bit of hostilty in your post. Do You work for windows; dont you LOL. I have used vista for 1 year and i just dont like how on a vista machine it makes my games lag and the Frames per Sec go to shit. If you like it fine but me persnaly its a complete joke. It takes way to much resources. I would like to make a challenge to you mooz on your lighten fast vista machines let me know the specs and then install Xp sp2 and tell me its not faster with xp VS Vista.

While I'm at it, why don't I just install windows 3.1 I bet that shit would be screaming fast. Seriously if you took some time to get educated on the subject you could solve all your "issues" quite quickly without going back. Still if you don't like it you can go back now one is going to mind. Just don't expect everyone to jump on your bandwagon and don't give PC advice when you clearly have only a novice's grasp.

I might not be in It like you are. But i know what i like, Vista is not stable on my Hp laptop. Why is it running FFXI with vista i would get 18 frames per sec and with xp i am now getting 28 frames per sec. Maybe it also has to with Hps lack of help with there drivers. Nivida cant make a driver for vista.


Also a side note i know alot about Windows and Osx. I never liked Vista, it is just to much of a resource hog. I do miss the nice pretty interface but i would rather have a system that is tried and tested and that does not make my FPS go to shit.

As I said, you have a novice's grasp of windows. Nothing wrong with that at all. Nvidia has great drivers for vista. I know because I run a Nvidia card. More than likely, it's your game that doesn't like vista. Not the video drivers. Vista tossed all system drivers into a protected memory space (for security). This is going to impact older applications and cause them to run a bit slower when trying to access those drivers. Especially heavily used video drivers. Once the developers of your game catch up to those changes, you'll see a marked improvement.

Well that is the thing i bought this Pc laptop so i can play FFXI the game is pretty old though its like almost 6 years old i think. It was made for Xp so that is why it runs better. Mooz can u Really say MS did not rush vista.

Personally if you ask me nothing compares to Leopard, but if I had to choose between vista and XP, I say XP all the way. In my partition I run XP and I would never considered going to Vista, at the University most of the computers run Vista and men they feel like they cant handle enough of the PC.

I could be wrong here but I read somewhere that Microsoft has decided to drop Vista and create a new OS out of scratch, to replace Vista. Also until very recent Dell had an offer of getting XP instead of Vista on their brand new computers, because of various complains on Vista.
