That's what I was thinking. I had no idea that site was worth that amount of money at any time.

haha, I know, srsly!!!
I didn't really get into snowboarding until the 06/07 season which is when i joined both this and the other forum... but response here has been much better, and honestly that site's gotten too mig to matter to me.
A lot of forums are like that though, once they get too big, they begin to become too much work and headaches. The best forums are small-ish ones, with members that (mostly) know each other and can create a relaxed atmosphere that everyone (noob, and veteran) can feel comfortable in. Sadly, this mostly works for localized (region specific) forums, btu sometimes it works if theres a good vibe.
since the EC meet of 08 though, I haven't even visited that 'other' site

The software they wrote for the social networking was where the money was. Very unique, very easy to use, very fluid. Now that software is a wreck and it seems like they don't have a lot of the initial development knowledge. Still, the rights may be worth a 20-30k. Provided you can find an investor willing to sink money into software without a knowledge transfer or a developer with a clear understanding of it's development stages.

Well thats the thing, creating a relaxed and fun atmosphere. This community has done that. Look in the intro threads. Gee anyone can start a new thread and not get pounced on...And the threads go as long as the thread goes...and sometimes a thread will keep going on. Theres no "right or wrong" to it.
There is alot of activity here, postive activity. U have veterans helping newbies, u have meets that anyone can attend. U have a simple format, an avatar, a mugshot, a sig..simple. U have a variety of threads. There is also some great information you can see ie: whos been on, how many members, newest member...type thing. The Administrators are updating things and I am sure in time they will add more features to it.
Bottom line its the members. That is what makes it. If u get good quality, friendly, helpfull members then that is the type of site it will be. And as long as that keeps happening here...real simple
The grass is truly greener on the other side..in this case

I've offered to configure them for free, shit I'll even write a bunch of tuning and monitoring procedures so the site will call them when it goes tits up. SQL is easy, and I'd really just be copy/pasting stuff I already have written. I wish they'd let go of that damn pride and just accept some outside help.

I would take your help in a heartbeat!!!!!
Matter of fact If I were the producer for Jurassic Park, I would put you in the script..."John! the system is useless".."The hell it is...MOOOOOOOZ! Restore mode please

So what ever happened to the development stages? I thought most companies keep a copy of spec/design/code ect.
How could a new software run the new owner? Unless the person that buys it could code it himself.

I am sure the software is worth something on it's own. That 7 figure sum was just for the domain name. That's it. No software, no support nothing. Just to get the rights to snowboard.com...

$10,000,000 for the domain name? I call bullshit.

I think it's 1,000,000, not 10,000,000
which is still bullshit
