Well, Bush kind of almost has to go there since America has gone from the world`s largest creditor nation to the worldss largest debtor nation and China is our biggest creditor along with Saudi Arabia. If either of these two countries called in their loans, we would be economically destroyed. He is in a position of weakness just like any debtor kissing the ass of the bankers he owes money to and therefore we can no longer deal with China from a position of strength.

I wish it would wake them up, but I don`t hold much hope; America has turned a blind eye to their human rights abuses and repeatedly given them "most favored trade" status as a carrot to try to help steer them that way and they just keep giving the world the finger.

Where I do have sympathy is to the athletes who have no say or even interest in the geo politics of the situation; I think holding the games there cheats the athletes out of some of the glory they deserve by making the cut to even compete.

Did George not look like a million bucks....come on my boy was on fire. did u notice how board he was until the US comes out, then he stands, adjusts his suit....gotta love george....

And did u see the interview with Bob Costas?? not bad.

Of course George will go...he should. the olympics is a time for sports not politics. I think the IOC has done a fine job in distinguishing that part over the years. There should be no reason to boycott any olympics from any country

I'm impressed with the amount of world records in swimming. It's quite amazing, really.

Ok I want to know what a sport has to do to qualify asa an olympic sport. You have track and field, swimming, gymnastics, cycling, rowing all these sports that demonstrate strength and stamina. Then you have these things like horse back riding, ribbon dancing and shooting bb guns how the hell do things like that get in there.

Those ridculous things get in but awesome things like Ultimate Frisbee that require more physical ability and skill, or then again they have field hockey but no lacrosse???? I would love to see lacrosse in the olympics, lacrosse is fun to watch.

On a positive note Micheal Phelps is about have crazy to watch swim.
And so is any gymnastics, I'd love to see any of those people ona snowboard. those people would be fuckin nuts.

my understanding of it was, that a host nation was allowed to introduce a sport of its choice. this is a courtesy promoted to engage a personal interest in the host nation's population, whilst ensuring an 'evolution' of olympic content for all.

such a sport needs to enjoy a cohesive group of partcipants and supporters as it lobbys the host nation's olympic committee to get their sport included.

however i am not so sure, as i had understood that the British Cycling Association had petitioned the UK olympic committee to have BMX racing included in time for 2012 (its one redeeming feature for me), however i see it is included this year!

could china have requested the inclusion of BMX!!?

Yeah, it's freaking crazy. Like every damn race someone breaks a world record, in both men and womens races. My b/f used to be on the Swedish Jr. Olympic team for swimming. He said that some of it may have to do with the new suits they are wearing. Apparently, they create less friction than skin. Thus, you can go faster. *shrugs*
