Just tried Evil Twins Ashtray HEart smoked imperial stout.......and let me say this, who knew you could make or want to make a beer taste like an ashtray. It was awful, I seriously dumped it out and quickly poured myself a Loki DIPA to wash it down.......wow, my worst beer ever that Ashtray Heart shit

Being from San Diego, I've become quite spoiled with the west coast's obsession with IPAs & Belgians... I love a good nasty red ale too, and I rarely step outside ales.

Really fond of the local flavors from Green Flash, Alesmith, Coronado, Ballast Point, and of course Stone... Wow there are too many to name. If you are ever in San Diego, stop by Hamilton's Tavern, or Monkeypaw... There are too many others that are amazing, but these have a special place with me.

I travel a lot for music reasons, and I've found that the west coast seems to have the liveliest flavor profiles in the country...

Just like coffee - I prefer very bold, distinct flavors, dynamic tastes, and either citrusy or earthy profiles.

From above, I guess I do seem like archetypical west coast hop blaster... One thing I like is weird beers... I have to throw one in every time! So many fun flavors out there...

Some notable ones, some of which I'm sick of, but loved at one time:

Stone Vanilla Bean Smoked Porter (very rare, very awesome)
Eel River Acai Wheat (these are delicious in every way)
Ommegang Three Philosophers (quad belgian w cherries)
Traquair Jacobite (super spicy coriander flavored scotch ale - try this at least once)
Monkey Paw Gose Bananas (it's a gose - super rad, light and fun beer, not tasting like banana, hahaha... but i think they did one with cherry or some other fruit that was rad too)

Not gonna lie. It's pretty gross. It tastes like club soda, but with alcohol.

Damn this thread! I was getting so into beer that I decided to lay off for a couple days!!!

I'm a few days in and would love to have a glass of nice creamy tasty beer right now. Oh well, heading to Ontarible on Thursday to visit family so beer will be consumed in typical fashion.

And just so you know... Edmonton international beer fest is the last Friday/Saturday of this month. =) I think the craft beer fest is coming up next month for you as well.

Yes ma'am! lol Sorry it just fit... Talked to my neighbour tonight about the Calgary beer fest, we're going for sure! Anyone else want to go? It's May 3/4 and I'll be hitting Lake Louise that weekend too.

Can you get a few of us in for free?!? lol I owe you a pitcher of beer from Nakiska!

When I looked at the vendors it looked like less of a craft beer show and more of a mass production show. Either way, I like beer so I'll be there!

Lol depends on how popular the event is at work.

I went last year and it's not bad. Just a few micro breweries but quite a lot more harder to get beers available. Some of the stuff only available in pubs around here.

We should get all the Calgary people together for a drink, beer revolution/ craft or national would be good.
