Default On a scale of 1 to 10

Some of the best..and worse conversations come out of a crowded bar

So im drinkin with these people and winter approaching comes up and I mention I snowboard. Now the people I am talking to are around my age..OLD so naturally they start with.."U snowboard?"..."really", arnt u afraid your gonna get hurt

As the conversation continued one asked how good am I. I said Im alright, some asked questions like can you do this, can u do that but one asked...

On a scale of 1 to 10 how good ru

I thought about it and I gave myself a 6. Reason being I can do most stuff and have ridden most terrains including glades on both sides of the country but I dont do tripple whatevers in mid air thru the park and I cant really truly switch all that well(at least not like u kids). But I ride fast, can turn very well, can getup when I fall and continue on(safety meeting applied of course)

So lets see how you rank yourself and why based on a scale of 1 to 10..

Mods maybe u want to move this to general snowboard chat. I just realized this is in general..if u leave it that is fine your call sorry

That's really tough! Like when I just first got decent and rode with my family I thought hell yeah I am actually THE shit. Now I've ridden with a load of people, and even though I feel I'm at a pretty solid standard I don't feel I can rate myself any higher than like a 5 or 6 when you look at pro's haha.

i agree. its all kind of relative. i would have given myself a 5 or 6 because i am not a park monster throwing down bs 7s or anything. but i've ridden with carmen and if he gave himself a 6 i'm definitely an 11 or so

See, I can actually do b/s and cab 7's, but then you see people throw 5's with so much style like it's nothing to them and you suddenly feel very humble about yourself!

Honestly I feel that you should rate freestyle and free ride in two complete different groups. Park is mostly for younger people and there is a thing about freeriding that some of these kids will never come close to doing.

I used to be a good skateboader but those days are over, I am getting old and my right knee is fucking gone( I have to get that checked out). So I keep myself to freeriding and very little park, I am scared of completely killing my knee. I do think I also rate myself around a 6 just like Carmen, I could use more days riding a year.

I get asked this question all the time because I work in a shop and my customers love to try and gauge how good we really are. I always say I can get down the hill. For that I rank myself at a 1.

Well. I think it depends on the mountain too. Freeride at my mountain I think I'm like a 9... but at other mountains I think i'd be like a 5.

It goes the same with park. I'm good compared to a lot of the riders at my mountain, but compared to people at most mountains I'm probably not too great

this kinda of qualitative rating system is so contrary to the mentality of snowboarding.

it is just too egocentric to tolerate.

but i am bored at work and this is the first thread for me to ansa so....

and so i will give myself a 9.

for sure i am light years away from most people, but what is important to me, is i can go anywhere i like the look of on a mountain. terrain parks hold no interest for me and so going off the biggest kicker or longest rail is no concern and thus is irrelevent. (for others this is less true and that is fine; i have seen kids throw 5s in the park but hardly able to get off a chair lift!)

i have a perfectly fun time when in the hills hence the high score; but i know i can improve, hence the imperfect score.

but with this said, and with a score being dependent on relative review in comparison to peers; having seen video clips of your riding MPD; if i am a 9.... then you are about 3. so lay off the safety stops
