Movies that pussied out

Since we're on the topic(s) of movies, how about movies that should or could have been bold, original, have fantastic messages, but pussied out and went least-common-denominator in the end.

My entry is Brainstorm (Natalie Wood's last movie as it turns out). In this movie they were actually zeroing in on proof of the afterlife, and they chickened out. Huge disappointment.

I know there are worse out there... but I recently watched the Bourne Legacy... and it really pissed me off. The whole point of the movie was that there was really no point to the movie. It was interesting and long, but when the end came... and I heard the music get a bit louder as it does in the end of movies I was shocked. I thought there was a good 30 or 40 minutes left, but they just ended it blandly.

The Matrix.

In its current form, it doesn't make any sense because using humans as batteries is extremely inefficient. Originally, the machines were supposed to use the humans' brains as a supercomputer, but they were worried that people wouldn't understand.
