Default What do members want from this forum?

We just had what in the grand scheme of things is a very minor skirmish in an EVO-related thread. The issues were whether or not the OP was trolling, whether or not some members troll in general, and whether or not other members are allowed to rip them a new orifice, and whether some mods (not naming names) are too strict.

This forum is technically not a democracy. No forum is. But forums without active members are a waste of electrons. Not to mention kind of boring.

So, I'd like to hear what members in general would like to see in terms of the tone of this forum. I'm making absolutely no commitment about following any suggestions anyone makes. But it would be nice to have something that's good for most of the people most of the time.

Anyway, throwing it open for discussion. Feel free to bring up experiences in other forums. Try to keep it constructive.

Not the most active member on here since my wife refuses to post on this forum, despite being active on several other snowboarding forums. Seems anything here can escalate into a war and the same name(s) always involved. Personally would like to see less aggression and perm bans for people that deserve it.

Haven't yet read the thread in question though

I don't know the answer, but I do know this used to be my favorite read daily.

Since the NSDT meltdown, the vibe is different.

The Evo thread was taken to the max by the troll and he deserved to be banned.

If you have been reading here long, you know to read what certain members post, chuckle then immediately ignore it. Those members probably need to tone it down a bit, but they will not. It is what it is.

They are needed for the place to have character.

Too many useless internet punks that are probably 11 year olds who don't even snowboard probably deserve all the shitty comments they get. I appreciate real people who are out there getting days in and I know Shred and I are some of them, and being antagonized or censored is just gonna dilute the whole point of the forum. I'm not the type to get pushed around either and if our straight talk isn't appreciated just because some kid wants to run their mouth...then to me the forum loses value. Not every place is for everyone, and maybe I've confused the kind of place that this is.

I appreciate all of the mods, but people like Shred should be left alone and people who want to bait him with less than 100 posts should be insta perm banned and the whole demerit system is an insult to all of us.

edit. it's not uncommon for people to come in here all strong and then realize we already have some strong personalities and you have to dial it back and learn where you fit it. This was true for myself a couple years ago. Some people have learned to fit in, others have gotten the verbal assripping they so richly deserved and then fucked off.

Not sure what RockSteady is trying to do other than force you guys to ban him so he can cry "I told you so conspiracy, waaa waaa waaa" ....ban him without remorse imo.

I may sound immature, or annoying, but personally I would kinda like it if the level of.... mature material? - would go down a little bit. :-/ thats my personal opinion.

For me its entertainment and a waste of time but cheaper and more wifery friendly than a titty bar. But as in any bar/lounge there are all types; and folks who become drunk, disorderly and picking fights ought to be thrown out by the bouncer....so as not to ruin the entertainment value for other patrons. Sure there will be silly arguements, vulgar language and shennagans....and hopefully tantalizing shows. But its all in the spirit of fun. If a person becomes so antagonizing, unable to tone it done and has no socially redeeming qualities...frickin ban them. IMO folks such as BA and Shred...btw, I think their shit is pretty funny, entertaining and generally straight up...even though the tact or delivery is not proper decorum for some....and having been on the recieving end at times...its ok with me I'd still love to ride with them and have a beer...this is not church kindergarden school. This is a free and voluntary social forum...no body is holding a gun to your head and if you don't enjoy it...LEAVE.

I also think that disagreement in an open dialoge is a good thing and has alot of educational value....crap if we all agreed and congradulated each other...we'd be a cult. Also we participate in a rather risky and dangerous sport...so having straight up shit, calling out bs and good information/education is a rightous thing.

As for recommendations...I like to see more snow porn, including scantily clad snow bunnies and fine arts related to the snowy life...perhaps the old sb.com was a bit better at that.

just my 2 cents

I'm very new here but already like this forum a lot. There are so many very friendly and helpful people willing to share their knowledge, that's great - thanks to all those!
I enjoy a lot to read through all kind of topics. There are always people not so much interested in the topic but love to dispute and to provoke, that's normal, and sometimes even fascinating. But I was sometimes a bit surprised, how harsh the tone could develop within no time and the thread gets senseless (well... at least I can improve my English knowledge by puzzling about the meaning of certain phrases. It seems, the hotter the minds, the more fragmented the language ). That's a pity, 'couse later in the thread there might again be interesting posts but after 3 pages of ranting you get tired and don't read any further.

Nailed it. Learn your place. We have some great people here with legit advice if you are just polite about it. I sit in the back, soak up the knowledge, and keep my trap shut.

I just wish people had the common sense to use the 'search' function more often.

People who accuse others of trolling can't handle forums or can't take a joke. If you don't like it, then why did you read it? And why did you respond?
