Skin Deep...see how the products you use measure up!

definitely a cool site that has tested many of the products out there & rated them with a hazard score. it lists the effects the ingredients can have on you including cancer, neurotoxicity, etc...

keep in mind that the products you use on your hair & skin DO absorb into your body & many of the possible side-effects are the cause of build up in your system, so rotating the products you use between two or three different types/ingredients can help eliminate any such build up, as it gives your body a chance to break down the chemicals it has absorbed. that's not to put ease to using products with hazard scores of high numbers, as those, i feel, should be avoided & are most likely not even needed or have much more natural alternatives.

I hope the site is still in beta stage. Just looking at their top hazard ingredient this comes up:

Fragrance? That's like saying "Chemical substance", ie not saying anything at all. This laptop I'm typing on is a chemical substance, and so is the server running this website.

they aren't the ones who put "fragrance" in that product, nor the ones who labeled it fragrance...the product is the one who listed it as an ingredient, as do many other products. it's kinda like when they list "other natural ingredients" but don't want to let you know what exactly those natural ingredients are, as people probably wouldn't buy it if they did know.

fragrance is definitely a nasty product. it's so chalk full of harmful ingredients that people just don't realize. here's a site that gives a list of some of them...

Granted, some of them are nasty, but if they don't list exactly what is in there, then how do the people at skin deep know? It could be a rose extract for all I know and this website labels it "the devil". I think they choose to err on the side of caution without much basis for it.
