What does the snowboard culture do for summer fun?
I get a lot of time off this summer (I get extra comp days since I'm the travel person on my job.) I have a shit ton of airline miles and a crap ton of hotel/rental car points. I am planning an actual vacation with hubby...maybe to the Balkans. Thats the plan right now.
We're also doing Kentucky Derby which we do every year.
But we're also looking for decent festivals or some events where we can camp out and have a good time. We were thinking Merlefest on TN...heard that was a good time. We'll prolly miss Coachella. But we're sorta interested in smaller (read: cheaper) local festivals. The more striking the locale the better! Even remote spots are good. We dont need running water. (We Mainers are a grubby people!) Any ideas?
Duuuude. Bumbershoot looks REDIC! If the lineup is even close to that good this year...that is going on the planning calendar. Oddly enough I have never been to seattle...that would be a perfect reason. Though the Sasquatch festival looks awesome too...and its rural vs urban which the hubby would like.
I would totally buy the super nice camping spot and then haul my ugly ass Wenzel with duct tape and marine tarp in there. Lol.
Some day we are gonna do Newport Folk Festival. Its hard tho becuase there arent many tickets sold and you have to have your life planned many months in advance.
I did Phish back in the day..at Loring AFB in Maine. I never followed them...but the Loring shows (Lemonwheel and the Great Went..97 and 98) were a great time.
Anyone done Buring Man? The big daddy of em all? I never made it...but someday.
Summer is when I make most of my money so Im ususally to busy to plan trips then. But I would suggest blues fest in chicago, birthplace of the electric blues. Its a weekend in june and used to be free (probably still is). Tons of great (real) musicians who have been ripping it on their respective instruments for decades. And if you ever want to visit chicago, june is the start of the 4 month window where it is actually tolerable to be outside.
ECC, Bumbershoot is pretty much like that every year. Admittedly, some years are better than others, but the lineup is most definitely solid, even in a "down" year. I've witnessed some fantastic bands throughout the years at Bumbershoot.
Sailfest! In New London, CT been there the past 2 years working, but i think imma take this year off and actually have some fun. It wraps up with the 2nd biggest fireworks show on the east coast.
Then theres bike week, but thats nothing new bunch of motorcycles blah blah blah.
