It is incredibly easy to secure your pc with free software that has a very small footprint, I've been using avast! lately as the Norton that comes free from my cable company seems to be constantly locked up/broken.

If you keep your data in order, reinstalling windows7 from a thumb drive is a snap too. I tend to do a window wipe every 6-10 months whether I need it or not. Nothing like a clean registry and naked partition full of fresh installs.
I haven't used any type of anti virus program for as long as I can remember and never got a virus on my PC. The key is to use programs that aren't as bloated with all that crap that most name brand programs are usually associated with.

The 10 minutes I've spent in a Ford dealership and the 30 minutes I spent in the "Apple Store" have been the most miserable times of my life. The Apple store was just awful, I can't stand it. I was there to get my grandma's iPad fixed (after its daily software update). They informed us we needed an appointment. What the hell? It's an iPad for goodness sake. Just fix the damn thing. The other thing I don't like about Apple is them forcing music prices up.

People still pay for music? I've never even been inside of an apple store to be honest. Best Buy is bad enough.

That is actually true. Hahahah. I had a friend from California come up in September and even he said that traffic was horrendous. A lot of my friends have commented that I am actually the exception to the driving nuts in Alberta.

Interesting. So there's no live protection? I've completely overlooked this .....

People in these little cars do the dumbest shit right in front of me. Not a week goes by in Portland where I don't have the rig sliding with the brakes locked up to avoid killing some stupid hipster who thinks its cute to fuck with trucks. I have never worked in a city where so many of the people have such a hatred for commercial trucks as Portland. People go out of their way here to fuck with trucks like its a game.
Dumb question of the day: WHY on earth would someone want to play a game of chicken with big rigs like that?? I mean, it's it really obvious that the loser would be the car, should there be an accident??

Nah man, MSE is live protection, but since its made by Microsoft, it's pretty lightweight on resources and runs in the background. I emphasize protection and resource use equally. MSE very highly rated as virus protection software goes; imo better than avast, AVG, and Avira. Uses less resources than the other 3 too. I just have a standard scan set for once a week, just because I'm anal.

Malwarebytes isn't live protection, but it's one of the best pieces of spyware/malware software in the business (and free). Like I said, I just schedule a scan once a week on it. It doesn't run on my system the rest of the time.

I absolutely hate live spyware protection like Spybot Search & Destroy, always popping up and bugging you and hogging resources. Malwarebytes is better anyway.

And note, once a week is probably overdoing it. I'd be fine with once a month. But again, I'm anal.

Seriously, my main goal on the highway is to avoid the Semis (and make them not have to slow down).
