Most musicians make a majority of their money from touring. iTunes and the label take far more than the artist does.

In the popular digital realm, a $9.99 download on a program like iTunes nets artists a modest 94 cents -- less than a 10% cut. The record company takes $5.35 and Apple keeps the remaining $3.70.

I'm not saying I disagree with paying artists for their work, I'm just saying the ridiculous prices the labels and iTunes have come up with drive people like me away from downloading music. So we just listen on youtube and go to concerts instead. You can buy good tix for what it costs to download a few albums!!!

And even here people don't seem to think around big trucks.

The distribution model for music recordings has always been fucked up - and did not get any better with the shift from physical sales to downloads.
To be fair, it is obviously not easy considering the cost structure on the production end, how easy it is to make copies (perfect ones these days), etc.
Still you know you are looking at a really fucked up situation when the train wreck that is the distribution model for snowboard gear looks relatively healthy by comparison...

One thing I hate is enriching record companies, after seeing how they've operated since the 80s onward (don't have much experience before hand, but I take it they weren't quite so rapacious). I will not buy music from Apple or Google for the above sentiments.

I will do whatever I can to avoid them. The ideal situation for me is when my favorite bands sell a CD/MP3 Download combo directly on their website. I get to actually support the band, even if I'm not able to make a show (which is happening more frequently with age).

Not a week goes by in Portland where I don't have the rig sliding with the brakes locked up to avoid killing some stupid hipster who thinks its cute to fuck with trucks. I have never worked in a city where so many of the people have such a hatred for commercial trucks as Portland. People go out of their way here to fuck with trucks like its a game.
Too bad you don't live in Russia!
