Default Pretty please. I need some computer help badly.

Basically, my neighbor gave me his password to get wireless internet.

Everything was great, then I got a room mate. I told him the password, we both used it. Everything was still great.

Then my room mate bought cable & internet so I didn't use my neighbors anymore

So I haven't been using my neighbors. But my room mate is moving out & with him goes the internet.

For some reason I can't get on the internet from the neighbor anymore.
The password is still the same & I am able to connect.

Only difference I can see is, now it says "Local Only"

Before it said "Local & Internet"

Is this a setting that can be changed? Cause I'm pretty sure my fuckin' weasel room mate did it.
He's a computer dork, the lady he used to live with was the one paying for the internet & he was throttling her connection.

I tricked him into admitting he was doing it to me too.
He's a fuckin' weasel, I wanna kill him.

My neighbors have no idea how to use a computer, his internet is strictly for his PS3.
So I know they didn't do it. They wouldn't know how, nor do they care.

Anyway... How do I fix it?

I can still connect, but only locally.

I can go over to my neighbors & change the settings, if I have to, just don't know how?

Thank you
TT

Not 100% sure without looking at it, but it sounds like the neighbor turned off his wireless. Local means cables. Local internet is with Ethernet cords and the other is Wi-Fi. That or it is the privacy setting for the internet and is set to private, which has nothing to do with a password.

Can't tell without looking at it though.

I get this problem sometimes. Suggest unplugging the cable modem and wireless hub, wait 60 secs. Plug modem back in, wait one minute then plug wireless back in.

Usually fixed it for me.

When I unplug the Ethernet cord I'm completely disconnected from the interweb.

When I try & connect wirelessly to my neighbors connection, it says "connecting" then after a few seconds it says "Successfully connected"

The only diff is, it won't let me connect to the internet.

The status of the connection in the "Network & Sharing Center" shows I'm connected, with full bars.
The Router is probably less than 5 feet away from me, on the other side of the wall.

I'll try & unplug it for a bit.

Have a feeling it's somewhere in the settings?

I'll try any suggestions though

I thought it might have something to do with the PS3, but it's not on right now.
I've deliberately checked @ other times when I knew it was off.

I know my room mate had something to do with it He's a creepy fucker, he won't even go take a piss without making sure his computer is password locked.

Someone please tell me that he purposely fucked me here.
& then tell me how to fix it.

I don't think I have much time left 1 hour tops. I think?
Half his shit is out, sooner or later the modem/router, what ever the fuck it is, will be leaving too.

I think you need to unplug your neigbour's wireless router and his internet modem to reset them, then wait a minute and plug them back in.

I might be confused but I don't think your roommates modem/router should affect you if you are trying to get on your neighbor's wifi. You should just connect wirelessly to whatever he named his wifi.

EDIT: Lamps beat me to it but I agree with him that you need to unplug the neighbors modem and router, wait, plug back in a see if that does the trick.

I go through this once a week with mine. It shows connected to wifi with full bars but I can't connect to internet. I turn both off, wait a few secs, turn back on and it is then working.

when you are connected with full bars, is there a little yellow exclamation point in there as well?

Agreed, Reset or unplug FTW! My router is old and that's all it seems to take when it has those symptoms. I'm not really sure why it works like that but it seems to.

Just incase it doesnt work, you will be missed.
