a crossroads...

Ok, I'll ask this question here since you guys are the only ones that probably wouldn't call me crazy for questioning this.

The following relates to my new years/chrismas holidays plan. Keep in mind that I have everyday from December 24th until January 4th off of work (paid).

Scenario 1: Stay home. Ride the local mountain (Blue Mountain), maybe Holiday valley (WNY mini-meet, anyone?) and maybe a few others, all in all probably 4-5 days on the hills at least. Partake in a little bit of hanging with friends, and for New Years have a pretty kick-ass party at my house (that most of my friends seem open to coming to)

Scenario 2: Go with my Parents to Jamaica (at no cost to me, mind you), from December 27th to January 4th.

Each has their pro's and Cons;

I'd (obviously) enjoy snowboarding FAR more than some monotonous beach on a resort in Jamaica, but, i mean... its Jamaica (I've never been, and I'd like to see it). It'd be the typical resort-type thing, with golfing and maybe some tours of the tourist-friendly areas (yawn). The bad part is that for New Years I'll (pretty much) be alone... no friends there, and in my family its just my parents and I, my brother and his gf... none of which I'm really that tight with.

Note: We're a slightly disfunctional family, and keep in mind that I'm 26 and prefer travelling alone or with a close companion or two. I get along with my parents better when I don't live at home.

So hypothetically speaking, which would you choose?

It's a tough call for sure! I would probably sway towards hanging at home and riding though. For me I'd much rather hang with my friends and party I think. Although this will be my 3rd christmas and new years away from home, and I don't really miss it to be fair.

Even though the trip is free would it really be worth it to see the same old tourist spots with people your not too fussed about being there with. Maybe if you really wanna go then get out there one year and see what you wanna see with a couple of people your gonna have a good time with.

Definitely stay here. You'll have more fun for sure.

Jamaica is a place you want to visit with your friends, not with your parents.

i'd go to jamaica. how often do you get an offer for a free trip to jamaica?! maybe they'd let you bring a friend?

keep in mind though, you don't want to wander too far on your own down there.

This one is easy. Go snowboarding

fuck a beach. They have beaches year round. Snow is seasonal.

ok, 3 for here! (Dave, i was waiting for you to post that!!!..haha, true story tho)

i think i was supposed to make up my mind by tomorrow, so i'll sleep on it for sure.

The friend option isn't really too open jenn... they'd definitely not pay for any of my friends to come, and most of my friends will be busy with their significant other's and work during that time frame, sadly.

If i had to pay, it'd be a no-brainer for sure, but the free trip is making it tempting. If it was almost any other destination where i could go off on my own that'd be a bonus too, but yeah, Jamaica isn't the place to do that, ahha.

ahhhhh... damnnit... the trade-off is that i can always ride on December 26th, and get my fill in before i go....

New years at Holiday Valley gets off the hook. Fuck Jamaica I'd take New Years in Eville. God I don't know how much debauchery I've done at the Madigans 24 hours of New Years.

i mean, if you need a friend to come with you i'd be more than happy to be that friend! tell moms you want to bring your new hippie girlfriend that you just met on the internet. after all, if your brother can bring his girlfriend, why can't you???

It's kind of a tough one. Sure snowboarding is always a blast but as NRG said, how often do you get a free trip to Jamaica. Even some of the most die hard winter addicts I know take a week off in middle of the winter to go to a sunny local. Also, end of December to the first week January tend to not be the prime parts of the season most years. Usually by the second or third week if January it's really pouring on. So you could miss the beginning of the good stuff but I doubt it would be very much.

Plus, girls in bikini's, snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing don't suck. These are vacation spots that tons of people go on, a lot of them single and a lot of them female. You can have the perfect relationship for the better part of a week and never see her again. :D
