Mountain biking
road biking
running
rock climbing (trad)
hiking

I also just picked up a .22 Rifle to do some plinking. Too bad ammo is so hard to come by.

I have a fly fishing road that I picked up last year but have only used it once. I'll get into it eventually.

I'll probably sell the motorcycle this year to pay for a fat bike. Maybe a 9:ZERO:7.

mainly doing yardwork/housework. I try to stay outside as much as possible. I like to hike with any spare time. We've got quite a bit of good trails here in East TN, with the Appalachian Trail and all.

I'd like to get into camping too. My wife's idea of camping and my idea are different though. She wants to take a 5-6 man tent up in a car and hike 200 yards to a campground, and I want to hike 6 miles-10 miles in with a one man tent out in no-man's land. So, at this point, I'm trying to convince my bro-in-law to do some long hikes and leave the wife at the house .

For those of you who camp a lot, any advice, gear guides, etc you can point me towards? I'd appreciate it.

What are you struggling with? Have you done any backpacking?

Keep your pack weight down. No more than 20 lbs for a weekend.

not really struggling with any thing at this point. Just starting out to be honest. Haven't made any gear purchases. I mainly just hike with a old backpack I had from college. I was just looking for any advice on useful gear, or things to avoid, etc.

Snowboarding, mountain biking, drinking by a fire, drinking by water, smashing camper kids, kicking out gypsies.

For several day hikes, get a good backpack suiting your height. Had to carry a 44lbs backpack on our Patagonia treck (wasn't intended like that but shit happens...), so over one third of my weight. Didn't had a very good backpack. Hip and shoulder straps were padded but didn't fit me very well. Had huge hematomas at hip bones from the hip girth after the first day. No fun to mount the backpack the next day again (but the treck was awsome anyway )

Minimize weight! Get light weight tent/sleepingbag/pan/cutlery/ a.s.o. Measure/ration the amount of e.g. coffee needed to stay human and put it into a light freezer bag instead of a full glass. Ask in a pharmacy for small toothpaste and suncream samples, get a detergent that will work for cutlery, clothes and body as well. If you're afraid of germs or got an delicate digestion and unsure if river water is clean enough, you can purify it with chloride tablets (e.g. Micropur Products - Katadyn Products Inc.. They also got a solution to get rid off the chloride stench).

Before you leave for a longer treck, be sure your feet get used to the hiking boots. First time with new stiff boots I just walked them some days and endet up with inflamation at the achilles tendons at both legs the second day hiking . Was lucky that Ireland is rather flat cause I hiked stiff feeted like a pengiun. Befor the next treck I've worn the boots every day for two weeks

hiking

I just do day hiking. I have a cheapo backpack. I carry light survival gear, rain gear, extra socks, food and water. Hiking boots are needed in the high country. I wear fast drying fabrics and half of my clothing is made for hiking.

It seems I have a new hobby every summer. This year I started salt water fishing. Lucky for me my dad lives in the marina where the boats leave from...he's a fishing bum. Why did I wait so long to get into fishing when my bro and dad have been fishing as long as I can remember? I don't know...oh, well cos my boyfriend made me go.

My third time out I caught an 8 pound yellowtail of the amberjack variety...Had sashimi for dinner and now Im hooked. hahah bad joke, I know.

now my dream is to catch a tuna. TUNA!!

I actually like the eating part more then catctching. Tho boats are fun!

I like to hike when the heat isn't oppressive...it's hot where I live

and the usual home improvment/yardwork...sigh. it never ends.

I rollerblade. Both rec for general exercise and at the skatepark for the past 14 years. Last year I also got a motorcycle. First an old 83 Nighthawk 650 and this spring I just got a 2011 Ninja 650r. Having fun learning to really ride and looking forward to modding once I sell my Nighthawk.

This is also my first summer living in and taking care of a house so there will be plenty to do with that.
