Default Turntablism

I've been getting more and more into this and trying to include it in my mixes. I saw this today on an older post on ghettofunk.co.uk and it blew my mind away. Jaw hits the floor @ 1:03

You going to be the one that finally brings real music back to Cecelias and not DJ Jeff Cox?

I used to throw parties(20 years ago in chi-town and denver) with my homie Danny the Wildchild, easily my favorite drum n bass dj.

I moved out of Summit, trying to get traction in FoCo. I've never even stepped foot in CCs. I went to liquid lounge once and I never went to any of those bars again (Brooklyns, CCs or LL).

I'm guessing the DJs there are given a format like a Top40 or whatever. Most bars/clubs that pay the most typically force you to play top40 and club bangers.

Shred,

Is there anything special about the XFader? The Rane62 faders are extremely light. I have been practicing crabs but I can't get a consistent stroke on each finger in time. oh well, practice every day. 1 clicks are like pie.

i'm sure the rane is just as smooth... obviously have the curve set right.. maybe its just that it was that much better than my last mixer (06 pro)

I leave the up faders set medium and the cross fader set as sharp as it goes. I'm still learning, right now. I wake up and do like 20 minutes of babies every morning to whatever spotify playlist I'm listening to at the moment. I love this thing, having the queue point hotkeys right there and the controls for autoloop gives rise to some interesting combos. The other guys I have seen use a programmable midi controller like an AKAI which works well but the extra speed of having that shit right at your fingers is really neat.

This is such a cool new hobby. I have been neglecting cleaning my ARs as a result :/

I actually sold one of my Sigs to help fund this little endeavor.

i had a 05pro3 for a long time. for crabbing, I notice sometimes the little bar that the fader knob is on can get kinda pushed/dented or just rounded off from hitting the edge so hard so many times. same with the far edge of the fader. sometimes if you scratch mostly on one side, you can take them apart and flip them around, but i used to put (very carefully) a layer of built up super glue on the edge of the fader slot. this helped in keeping the end portion of fader swing very small and tight, and also sort of bounced the fader back toward the middle when you're going fast.

since my mixer is way older than the shit you guys have, i'm not necessarily recommending this, but it really helped with crabs in particular.

also, little exercises like going 1-2-3-4-3-2-1 click crabs for warming up really help to get your fingers loose.

it's been a while, i think i'm gonna get my crab on

a less permanent solution might be to wrap that little stick that holds the crossfader knob on with a very thin slice of electrical or celo tape, only on the section that contacts the outer edges of the fader slot... see if lessening the gap where the fader sits toward the far ends helps you out. so long as it's not kept so far in that it bleeds, i don't see it as cheating... it's like detuning your edges. the softer electrical tape might help you dampen the bounce off the sides of the fader too, if the lighter faders are too lively. this could give you more control

Doesn't someone make pads or something similar that is extremely thin but sits in the x fader channel to change the rebound to help keep the bar that the xfader knob is on from bending?

I also suck at tweaking with my left hand and prefer to scratch on my left deck so I can tweak with my right hand. Is this a weakness I need to fix early on, kind of like learning to ride strong switch?
