Default Feeling Sad... :(

Buried the family hamster today, was so sad, and yes i know it was only a hamster, but he was still family...

He living like a king for 2 years and 3 months, then had to be put down due to liver infection and going blind...

His Castle

Alternative with more cage

His last hours on Saturday

Looking peaceful before we buried him today

I feel ya bro. I love my cat so much that if something were to happen i couldnt let go. After a while they grow on you and become part of family. I care just as much for my cat as i do for my sister.

RIP King Hamster the first.

That's the bitter thing with rodents - short lifespan... had a rat which also died after 2y and sure, it hurt. It doesen't matter if it is just a hamster, just a cat or just whatever, if you loved it, it's normal to feel sad. I disgust ppl who say "just" and mean it. A snobbish girly once run over one of my cats with dadies car and declined to pay for the vet using the words "it's just a cat and my uncle is a lawyer" Uhhh... wrong attitude, wrong person, wrond timepoint!
BTW. Sweet to see that ppl. exist who give the little rodents a nice big playground

Sorry man. They all live way too short of a life, unless you got a tortoise. Then they'll probably outlive you. You give them the best life you can until the end.

He was a real character, and used to enjoy winding us up that is for sure...

This was what he worked out in 30 minutes of getting his run, so we had to make some changes...

This was after we lined the cage part with plastic so he couldn't climb, it, he found a different way...!!!

So what you see in the 1st picture, is what we had to do in the end, and we put a cover on it, but he used to jump from his house, cling onto it upside down, and then try to chew his way through it... Hehe

That is why it had to be removed for more cage, but we kept it and had it out sometimes when the kids stayed up late so we could all interact... He used to be so mischievous... And crazy...

I'm sorry, Kevin. My sympathies to you and your family.

Like blunted, neni and chomps said, an animal is never "just" an anything. They become part of us. They are souls in bodies different than ours. But they experience love and joy and emotion just like we do. Except they are the masters of it.

I think that's part of the hurt from the loss, feeling like that connection to such pureness is gone. But we're always connected to them through our hearts and memories.

Looks like he lived like a king indeed. What a bright and engaging character in the videos! I knew he'd use that hanging block toy as an escape ladder ha. You are all lucky to have shared your lives together.

RIP.
