Design Thread...
Any other designers here? I'm working on a few projects and would love some input... Maybe a thread to C&C each others work would be nice. Hell this could even be converted if it catches on. I'm uploading a couple new designs I've been toying with as wall-papers, basically just to show brush use for my portfolio.
Anyone else have stuff to post up? C&C rules: Don't flame, just help out nicely or not at all Don't be a dick, I realize some people may not like a design, but help them make it better Use your own ideas, no one likes there stuff stolen etc. |
I like to draw a lot... Does that count? Hehehe.

I just love to see how different people express what they're thinking, and I love to see all kinds of work. Doesn't HAVE to be Graphic Design oriented. Design can be anything. |
I'll throw my opinion out there if you want it. My major at Michigan State University is Telecommunication, Information Studies, and Media with an emphasis in Digital Media, Art, and Technology (whew!) so I've got a pretty solid design background.
One thing I will say about offering constructive criticism though--I think it's one of the hardest things to do, b/c as a designer, you know what it's like to have someone criticize your own work. |
I do a little bit of design (mostly my own business cards and website, etc.) and am trying to make it as a photographer, so I would love a thread like that. Agree on the C&C, but I would also add that improving is more important to me than feelings, so I would encourage people to tear into my stuff as long as the sole purpose is to help me improve. Too often people tend to go too soft and it's just a big ego-massaging-fest.

My degree is computer graphics and animation. I've worked on a lot of video game models, but texturing stuff like that isn't the same as what you did. I'd like to be able to make graphics like those, but I just don't have the skills. I had a laptop that let me draw on it with a special pen, but my drawing abilities are sub par. Regardless of whether or not anyone loves the boards, coming from another artist, you've definitely got talent. I'd still like to see more stuff.

Mostly I learned on 3DS Max. I did a bit of Maya as well. I learned all the basic texturing programs, but Photoshop dominates the rest. I loved After Effects. I spent more time making my videos in there than I did modelling and animating them.
I was required to learn other stuff like AutoCAD and Rhino, but I didn't get into technical drawings so they don't come into play much. EDIT: I never used After Effects after school. It turned out not to be very practical for me. |
