Default What's wrong with my head?!?

Okay figured I'd stop hijacking the today I hate thread:

Recap: Been seeing dark spots in front of my eyes with flashes all around. Sometimes twice a year, sometimes once a week. Sometimes I get a headache with it but nothing crazy. Mom has a history of migraines. Been to the ophthalmologist who said the eyes themselves were in perfect health.

News: So on the advice of some forum members, I went to the doc yesterday. She was very good. Said it was most likely occular migraines (as I thought) but decided to setup a CT scan and do full bloodwork anyway. Did that today so should see what the results are early next week!

Thanks to all for pushing me to see the doc about it. Hopefully everything worse is ruled out, and I can focus on how to deal with the migraines themselves...

I thought for a second you were setting up a betting pool!

Hope it turns out to be minor.

I get these about 4 times a year, they last me about 20-40 minutes and 50% of the time end in a light headache. I can associate them with eye strain and lack of sleep.

Occular/Fractal Migranes.

First time I had one I almost shit my pants, now I just close my eyes and sit in the dark.

Here's an image of what I kinda see:

Hopefully your tests are all clear and this is all you are experiencing, minor annoyance really... unless your driving, then its time to pull over.

This is almost exactly what mine look like:

Sometimes I can still see in the middle, sometimes it's the middle that goes and I can see around. They usually last from 15-60 minutes, followed by either no headache or a light headache.

What makes me nervous is my mother used to get violent migraines. Full on 3 days in bed, puking, horrible pain, the works. I'd like to avoid getting to that point if possible!

There was discussion in the other thread around various medications. I'd be open to pot if it worked. I get them so infrequently that having to head home to puff and sleep wouldn't be a bad thing!

Experiened those twice myself. 1st time 20 years ago, right after my divorce. No doubt brought on by stress. Last one I had was a few months ago, no divorce this time, but a stressful period for other reasons.

As with Casual, first time. I nearly shit a brick. I was sure it was a stroke! BIG blind spot in my vison that looked like a ragged hole torn in my field of view. Drove myself to the ER. DOC there had NO clue what it was. Found out years later at eye exam.

Good luck! (...and look into some stress reduction!)

Your poll is broken, there wasn't enough answers, and I can't select multiple options!

i had these killer migraines in october of last year and january of this year. they seemed to stem from my eyes and i'd see weird shit like that and be in so much pain that i was basically useless for about 10 days straight both times - 24 hours a day, NO BREAKS. i literally felt like i was going to die both times.

800mg ibuprofen was the only thing that would help, and it would only help for like 2-3 hours.

i went to the hospital, and ct showed up clear (and cost a lot)... doc said it's stress and/or sinuses. could be on the computer too much (i'm a web/print designer, & web developer).

after about 10 days, the headaches would subside, i'd feel super dizzy and just out of it for about 2 weeks. no pain, i just really felt stoned the whole time...

i self diagnosed them as "cluster headaches," and the docs said that could be it, but they didn't know how to confirm, since i've only had it twice.

luckily, i have not had them since january, and i hope never to get them again. that shit reallllllly sucked. trying to stay stress free, but i have so much shit going on in my life, that it's basically impossible.

Unlikely for you to get that bad, you're not a woman and you're a bit past the prime age for a migraine starter.

I don't know about THC, but botox is quite the go-to method these days. Might wanna look into that.
