Good brands for outerwear?

I've been out of the game a while, getting back into it this season and need a new jacket/pants. I know brands like DC, Burton, etc make a decent product, but what other good brands would you recommend for outerwear?

Theres plenty out there: 686, ThirtyTwo (32), Special Blend (if you can find something from them went out of business), Analog, Billabong, Oakley, Volcom just to name off a few

Dont forget quiksilver and salomon etc. Just pop into a winter sports shop, or check out some online shops. You will soon see what all the good brands are

Prepare to get a facefull of opinions! :P

My gear is Bonfire (I think it's the same as Salomon?) and I've been plenty happy with it. 15k/15k and all that. Oh, or anything gore-tex is bound to be good stuff... or so people keep saying.

Do any particular brands specialize or do better than others with specific fits? (slim, baggy, etc)

each brand is pretty much the same they all make different options for different riders, You'll find whatever you want at each brand its just different quality from each brand

Also look at Westbeach and Planet Earth gear.

Westbeach is overpriced though, so don't pay MSRP for that stuff...

to the OP you are entering a whole new level of high end alpine equipment with brands like Patagonia, Arcteryx, etc and some of the snowboard brands certainly keep up, I just think it is prudent to keep these sorts of companies in mind and watch for sales.

A friend just gave me a brand new pair of Burton Dryride Vent pants and they are bomber (20/15 i bleeve), I've got a nice 32 jacket as well as some really great VOLCOM stuff, all of which I would recommend.
