Women's Helmets
Girls, what helmet do you ride in and love? Seeking warmth and comfort of course..I cannot imagine not wearing a hat but based on a previous thread, I guess I won't need one? Don't your ears get cold? I am a Caribbean girl so my blood is thin :)

Also, my head measures 55 cm so should I go with 51-55 cm helmet or 55-59 cm?

Thanks all....

I wear a Smith Variant. Not Women's specific, but I like it. I have a feeling "women's specific helmets" only refers to the color schemes ;)

As for sizing, I'd recommend going to a shop and trying them on. Mine is adjustable, but I wear it all the way tight and it leaves me room to wear something underneath, like a balaclava. But so far I haven't had to, as the helmet keeps me plenty warm.

Snowsport helmets have ear pads that will keep your ears warm.

My 10y old giro didn't have closable airvent holes and also the ear pieces were rather thin. With that helmet, I added a thin balaclava on cold/windy days (below -10C).

But with the now models, you'll be fine without a hat. I've a Giro Lure, ear pieces are thick n fluffy, almost too warm :) and airvents can be closed easily.

Being between the sizes, you should try the helmet in a shop for some time. I'm also between the sizes. Tried the 51-55cm first which felt tight but ok for some minutes but got headache after 10min. Bought the bigger one which is perfect.

thanks..I bought a Smith Allure medium, 55-59 cm. I am 55 and tried the fit nice but tight. The medium is slightly loose but it does not move around, just lose. I hope I bought the right one going up slightly. Is it better to have it a little lose or tighter? I figure tight would give me a headache...

I think you're exactly where I am, then. Mine is the same, 55-59, I have it set to 55 and it's a slight bit loose.

I caught edges where my head hit the hardpack and got nothing more than a sore neck out of it, so I guess my helmet is working for me :P And yes, yes, before you say anything, I know it's time for a new one soon. They were relatively light impacts though, so I think I can get away with it for a little while longer.

If you want to keep your ears warm look into Bern helmets, more specificaly one that can take a hunter liner. And their hard hat line is a helmet with some give so it fits super nice, and they can take multiple impacts without having to be replaced. couldent find the girly version but that should give you a good idea
