How much leeway do you have in helmet sizes

So yeah, I'm going on a trip with uni and ideally need a helmet. I tried on a 61-63cm helmet which was a very smug fit, but I found a nice looking one on ebay going for 16ish. The only thing is, it's 63-67cm, would it still fit me or would it be wobbling around on my head?

Already hit my head really hard twice (3 day long headaches lol), so it's probably best if I make sure I have one for this, but I'm living on a student loan so want to keep it cheap :P

Why not take a tape measure and measure your dome?

Cause I'm stuck at uni and don't have a tape measure available unfortunately :P

Hmm, I can't measure properly, but i'm around 63cm or a little bit over i think, would a 60-62 helmet possibly fit? :P

Some helmets have a tightener on the back for small adjustments to fit. Also, although it's not ideal, you could err on the side of big and be prepared to wear a beanie or something to snug it up.

It's really hard to tell without trying it on, even across the same brand. Some are more adjustable than others. They either come with different thickness of foam that you can put in, or have things like boa to adjust tightness.

Take a shoelace or string.... wrap it around your head, mark it with your fingers... measure the lenght of the string with a ruler. Everyone (who's not a hippy) has a ruler and/or a shoelaces...

Helmets are like boots...

TRY THEM ON...!!!

A bad fitting helmet is as bad as wearing no helmet at all, and can cause you as much injury from a fall...

This is not something you should skimp on if you feel the need to have one, and everyone should use them to be fair...

The hardest part of you to fix, is the bit that does all the thinking and controlling of the rest of you, and you want to buy a cheap bad fitting helmet...

Not a lot else i can say really...
