Burton Regular Fit vs Special Blend Freedom Fit

Can anyone share their knowledge on how Burton's Regular Fit and Special Blend's Freedom Fit compare? I'm between a L and XL in most clothing (t-shirts, sweaters, polos, etc.) and found the SB Freedom Fit to run large so I went with a L giving me a nice, semi-snug fit with layers on. How does Burton's Regular Fit compare? Does it run large like SB or more true to size? I've looked at sizing online but it's hard to compare and sites use standard sizing like XL = 42-44".

I'm looking at a Burton AK jacket on eBay but can't decide on the L or XL. I usually wear a baselayer and midlayer. Given that it's more of a shell, I'll need a to have both the baselayer and midlayer on. I guess if the Burton XL fits like the SB L, that's what I would go with but trying to get confirmation.

Appreciate any input.

My AK jacket is a large and fits almost in the middle of large and XL based on other jackets that I have. The arms are a touch longer than normal and the body just a tad wider than other large jackets. Plenty of room to layer underneath and still be able to move around. I'd say stick with the XL if you think you are between sizes as they run a tad large for me.

If you're saying the fit runs a bit large, I may be inclined to go with a L. I'm most concerned about width, especially in chest and back since I have broad shoulders (wear a 46 in suits). I'm trying to find a store nearby to go try on an AK jacket but options are limited in Washington, DC area.

I would agree with IowaB, the AK size large does tend to fit between a L and a XL - especially for their shell jackets. I suspect it is because their shell jackets are specifically designed to be worn with a mid layer of some sort underneath.

All of my outerwear jackets are generally size large, as is my AK jacket, but my AK is definitely looser than my other garments with the exception of my Analog jacket which is almost gangster size.
