Super-duper outwear

Many pieces of outwear do exactly what you've bought them for, they're warm/waterproof/durable/whatever, which is great, but some pieces are just unexpected extraordinary fabulous.

I've hit two such bull's-eyes:

Devold Expidition merino shirt. https://www.devold.com/en-GB/expedition-woman-zip-neck/?p=155-244&c=950
That thing is just awesome. It's actually a base layer, but it's so warm, I wear it single layer. It's warm when you need warmth, but it's also won't make me run hot. Almost like magic it always keeps me at the right temperature. And it won't stink. Even if worn thre consecutive days hiking? No funk. Love the long cuffs which keep the wrists warm. Had other merino stuff, but this one beats all the ones before and makes it obsoleteto wear a base AND mid-layer. Less packing for trips!

The other is the Black Diamond Deployment hoody W's Deployment Hybrid Hoody - Black Diamond Gear. Best ascent jacket I've encountered. Had comparable pieces from Arcteryx, but the Delpoyment is just brilliant. It has insulation on upper arms, core front and hoody, and a simple thin fabric at under arms n back. No heat accumulation, no sweating, no turning cold. It's perfect in wind n snow n sun.

Any super-duper items you found?

I was actually recently told to not wash merino at all - just hang it to air out after use. I don't think I can adopt that philosophy for things I sweat in, that go on my feet, or that touch my :dropjaw::mellow:. I still probably only wash most of it after 10 uses or so.

I feel this way about most of my gear by now.

-one of my favorite pieces is my merino long sleeve heavyweight. it seems to have a wider range of comfort control than anything else I layer with.

-big fan of my Homeschool cocona puffy. It has about 3x teh insulation of my nanopuff but also breathes significantly better, its just fantastic

-homeschool cocona shant, only baselayer pant I'll wear anymore

-merino buff for headgear

-flylow gloves and mitts

I think clothing - especially on the ascent is a very personal choice and works different for every person.
I tend to run pretty hot when skinning and hate it when my baselayer gets too wet. So even on very cold days i rarely wear more than a polyester base layer and a cheap north face 100 fleece.
A lot of times when there is no wind i only wear a baselayer. I tried a merino baselayer but for me it only works when its extreme cold.
I`m looking for a new hardshell at the moment, but until now I only used a very lightweight and small packable 2,5 layer jacket. The reason is that its in my packpack 95% of the time.
So after trying lots of different (and expensive) baselayers and midlayers my super-duper items are a cheap sports direct polyester shirt + north face 100 glacier sweater.
