Helmets ? Bern Specifically. New To Buying Gear.
 

Hey new poster here. I was wondering the boards opinion on helmets. I'm about just three seasons into boarding and its time I buy one I think. I was looking into bern helmets.

The model I was going to is Watts. I found both the HardHat and EPS for $65-$69 from some times. The problem I have is I don't know what would be best.

HardHat or EPS.. I will list what the site says.

"Available as a Hard Hat with a burly ABS shell with multiple-impact soft Brock® foam or as a helmet with ABS shell and EPS hard foam. EPS hard foam meets ASTM F 2040 and EN 1077B standards for snow and ski, CPSC and EN 1078 standards for bike and skate. Hard Hats with Brock soft foam do not meet the standards for action sport head protection."

The hardhat is better for multiple. mild and moderate impacts where as the eps is better for a single hard inpact. I personally wear the hardhat and have taken some pretty good hits with it. I feel it is better at preventing concussions on moderatr impacts then eps.

Brock foam is the better tech but not certified. I think it costs a shitload of cash to get certified and bern is a relativly smaller company.

I did like the idea behind the brock foam tech. Although finding out it was not tested scared me. I think I will get a hardhat.
