I was at Coastal Riders, checking out their clearance items on the weekend. I guess I waited too long, and the selection's down to the dregs. The only jackets that were even slightly interesting were a Burton jacket and a couple of Special Blends. Unfortunately they all seemed to be the bottom-end stuff though. I guess I've been spoiled by my 686 with all the pockets and the liner and the removable hood.
Just idle curiousity right now -- what jacket do you have that you'd buy again? I'm not looking for a best-of-the-best thread, just a couple of suggestions for jackets that have good features, don't soak through when faced with a picture of a rainstorm, and have held up.

I own several TWC signature jackets. My '07 TWC finally retired last season, but that was voluntary. That was only due to the magnets falling off. The jacket still works great in the rain. If I could find the receipt, Burton would warranty it (lifetime).
I also own the '09 and '10 TWC jackets. The '09 Noble Gentleman is my main one and still looks new. I picked up an Oakley Landic this season and love that as well. This one isn't fully insulated though. My TWC ones have light insulation. I also have a 2012 Special Blend jacket. Don't know the name, but I like it a lot (it's in my avatar). |

Nomis Stacks jacket...not only would i buy again, i already did...lol, i have two of them...anyway, its a 3 in 1 but the cool thing is that the liner is also a hoodie that is logoed and everything with zippered pockets and its 100% nylon or something like it...basically its not cotton so it makes a great lightweight coat for those hot days....as far as the shell, it obviously has lots of zippered pockets, vents, a media pocket with loops to run your headphones through, and those little wrist gaiters to keep snow from up your sleeves..while the hood is not removable, it does button down to stay out of your way....all and all, as you can tell, i love everything about this jacket, functionability, style, everything! oh yea, also has the flash pass feature, and another awesome inside breast pocket that is separate, meaning you dont have to unzip your jacket to get to this one inside breast pocket,IMO perfect stash pocket

I can't recommend 686 Smarty line enough for durability, fit and versatility. Their stuff fits pretty well, a little bit less loose than say Nomis or Special Blend. They have Smarty 2.5's for $220 on Dogfunk right now, regularly these things are over 300. The entire smarty line is bomb proof, super warm, waterproof, tons of features and awesome style.
I only usually wear my actual jacket if it's just ass-freezing (I Vermont and it can get pretty cold) or if there is preciptation. Other than that, I like to wear a Nomis Lumberjack Hoodie or any of the Never Summer hoodies and just layer underneath. |
