fleece? - Snowboarding Forum

i know that jackets are thicker and all, but i was wondering if a fleece was any good. are they water resistant? i just thought it'd be better to get because it doesn't get too cold around here. any tips or suggestions would be great

also, anyone in the sacramento area know when that cal expo snowboard show/sale is?

Fleece is not very good as a shell during the winter. Wind cuts right through it and fleece is only barely water resistant. There are some fleece jackets that have a tighter weave of fabric on the outer part but unless you only plan to be out for an hour or so, you are looking at a very cold, very wet, very miserable winter day on the slopes.

If the weather is not too cold or extreme where you are why don't you get a softshell jacket, something from sessions or 686 would be good, my session one is nice and long with a relaxed cut, they are great for milder days, spring days, they are windproof and will shed all light rain n snow.

lol... the most that I'll wear on a nice day out are my boarding pants, a t-shirt and a fleece vest. maybe a headband to keep my ears warm.
... it doesn't get real cold out here.

There are plenty of days around Tahoe when a fleece would be OK but I wouldn't count on it for my only jacket for the season. If you spend a lot of time on the ground a fleece could be pretty miserable even on a nice day.
