Well, you could always try bluetooth...
You could either get one of those bluetooth headsets(if you can fit them in)
or get a helmet specified headset.
I'm not advertising or anything, but take a look at the SENA SPH10S. I got mine as a gift, but I think it's worth buying . It's got microphones, intercoms and everything. All at the price of getting knobs on the side of your head... but who cares about looking like a cyborg if they're using bluetooth anyway.
Plus, the volume control is crazy, I think it goes from 0 to about ten thousand if regular ones stopped at ten
