Decent mid layer along with a windproof shell ? I havent gotten cold wearing it around town, but then again its not full blown winter in these parts.

Unlike R4, There' s no windproof insulation in R2 technology as well as i know...

it's what I use for most of the winter. It's awesome since it's not windproof, when you open your shell's pitzips you dump heat instantly.
I run cold so I wear a capilene 4 first layer under it

the r3 is too warm for riding and the r1 isn't enough (for me). This year I've got an insulated jacket so the r1 might be perfect for that
