I wasn't thinking about it at all and I threw in my snowboard pants with the rest of my clothes. normal wash and fabric softener. when I went out boarding i got rained on so when I got home i just threw everything in the dryer, on high. my pants and gloves are burton, no gore-tex.

did I actually mess up my gear? I got the spray on nikwax. will that fix anything that I might have damaged?

Only one way to find out...

Personally, I never dry any of my outdoor outerwear gear. Air dry only. I'll only wash it using some form of tech wash and even then, usually only a couple of times per season. Your undergarments generally absorb the stank and skank. No real need to wash the outerwear very often.

AS you know goretex should be washed AND dried. Id assume the same could be for other similar fabrics but not sure. Id say the worst would come from the fabric softener possibly clogging pores. IMO you are probably fine, and if your fabric acts like goretex then it was a benefit.

I just don't trust dryers.

I just air dry and treat with a decent spray on DWR.

fabric softeners are BAD NEWS for all your outdoor gear.

The dryer cycle is actually part of the GTX cleaning and care.

as Lgorge mentioned, only one way to find out.

true, i just went and splashed some water on my gear. the pants still repelled the water pretty well but the gloves and jacket soaked it up. I'm thinking that ill wash everything again to get the softener out and then spray on the nikwax. so far it doesnt sound like anyone knows for sure if or what the heat could have damaged so hopefully this works.

The heat is less likely to damage the gear than the fabric softener. Honestly, fabric softener is more often than not just bad news.

Wash the gear with a decent tech wash then treat with a DWR. Nikwax brand is fine for both. Honestly, I doubt it's ruined. It generally take some pretty sustained abuse to ruin decent gear.
