Tail Bone protection for big guys

I see quite a few threads talking about tail bone protection, but I'm a big guy and wanted to ask what other fellow big guys wear.

I'm athletic but I'm 265lbs, I weigh almost double of some of my boarding friends but I'm doing the same jumps, boxes, rails, etc. Recently I fell off a hop-on rail straight on my tailbone and actually ended up hurting my back. I was wearing the Demon d3o tailbone shorts but I guess just the sheer impact of my weight really jarred my spine. I'm familiar with equipment not being made for somebody my weight, last year I shattered my front binding when I landed on the knuckle of a jump. It literally shattered, the baseplate and plastic circle in the middle was in pieces. I have to assume this is a similar situation where the shorts are just not made for a big guy like me.

Has anybody else had to deal with this? I'm thinking of wearing the Demon shorts under Azzpadz, maybe double up there.

I was riding at about 240 last year and found that just the azzpad was more than adequate. The pad over the shorts should take any impact you could encounter. I also wear the demon jacket with the spine pad if I will be doing any park stuff.

Not really sure as far as big guy sizing, but my girlfriend loves her azzpad. She actually seemed incredibly happy after the first fall wearing it. She popped up and yelled to me that she didn't feel anything.

The azzpad just looks like a diaper... I'd prefer shorts.

I found the shorts to look much more noticeable under pants. Maybe if you take out the thigh and hip pads, but then you are pretty much just wearing an azzpad anyways.

Check out POC gear. I believe they're called VPD shorts. I have them and they work great. Super low profile and high tech. Good thing is that your weight doesn't matter because the material used in the protectors und a kind of soft material that stiffens on impact and absorbs the energy. Feels pretty much unbreakable. They're not cheap but I'm really happy with them because you just don't feel that you're wearing them.
