Default ShockBox

Has anyone seen, used or considered getting one of these...???

https://www.theshockbox.com/products...winter-sports/

I ask, because i was lucky enough to win one in there Superbowl giveaway, and actually put it on my old Sweet Full Cut Trooper...

Now i fall quite a lot, as i try very hard... Haha. So was interested in what it would actually register, and as i had had that helmet for 3 years, was shocked to see the forces i i have when i fall...!!!

Anyway, the end result of 4 weeks of use, and about 6 hard falls, i reckoned it would now be a good time to buy a new helmet if that is the force i was impacting with over the last 3 years, by helmet was definitely on it's last legs...!

So it is now fitted on my new Sweet Grimnir Mips, and i would not ride without it in the future, it gives me piece of mind and shows me that i cannot lie to myself about how hard a fall is...

A friend had a fall while qualifying at a Norwegian round of SBX, he races Europa Cup normally, and he had a really hard fall, and 3 days in hospital for concussion, and has now ordered one for next season...

So i guess my question is, would you use one, or do you consider it "gay"...???

I will be supplying both the kids for next season so they cannot say they are ok when they are not, i want peace of mind with them... So think it is a good idea... But also think it might be something that kids competing should be encouraged to use.

People who consider something that protects their melon "gay" can fuck off as far as I'm concerned.

If it works as advertised, looks like a smart investment to me.

I agree. If someone thinks it is "gay," who cares.

I probably wouldn't spent the $150 on it, but it looks like a neat toy. If I owned it I wouldn't fall deliberately for it, but I wouldn't mind keeping record of the force I'm putting on my head and neck when I do fall.

I understand the need to protect, and it is on my helmet...

I like the charge and forget aspect of it, it needs charging every 3 or 4 weeks and only connect to my bluetooth if it has an impact to report, so in that respect it is really cool...

I just worry a little more than i used to i guess, and i break w whole lot easier now i am not a teenager as well... Being mid 40's i guess you look at life slightly differently and don't "feel" invincible like you used too...

And as i didn't buy it, it was a great product to try, but as i said, i WILL be buying it for the kids now i know how effective it is...

I am a little surprised this has not been talked about on the forum before though... Like many gadgets or improvements to what we do, it is normally "fixing a problem that doesn't exist", this is a real problem in the real world that is personal choice...

Honestly I had never heard of it before. But I think head injuries/trauma are a problem that definitely exist, and one that we really don't know the significance of yet. Can't tell you how many times I've "had my bell rung" playing football and baseball that were probably concussions and I played through it.

I have a feeling that the scientific community is just scratching the surface of brain related injuries and their long term effects. I think you're doing right by your kids in that case...better to be too cautious than not in my opinion

if you can't remember shit and/or are puking - you've had a concussion.

i don't see the point. when you hit your head that hard you pretty much know that something is wrong.

I've had both kinds though...Hit my head hard enough to get a headache but never threw up or had loss of memory, still got held out of a game because of "concussion-like symptoms".

I agree, the big time collisions you're gonna know about, but the minor concussions might never get reported by his kids. I wouldn't buy it for myself, but I can see how it would be beneficial to a parent who's kids go hard in the paint all the time and try to board/play through every injury.

Agree with everything, but would also add blurry/double vision if it lasts for hours. Once I couldn't see straight for about 45mins before everything cleared up.

it's less lame than a giant gopro stuck to the top of your helmet. I don't think I'm ready, as I only just bought a helmet at the end of last season. I like it for my kids though. Wouldn't one of those little G-force stickers they use for shipping fragile stuff work for a lots less money?
