It works both ways and I'm not fooled into thinking the IDF is committed to a cease-fire given what they've already done.
Oh don`t get me wrong. I am not condeming Hamas and I agree with your point about being occupied. Under UN treaties an occupied nation is granted a lot more lattitude to resist. My only point is that I think they are not trying hard enough to try to let things cool down. A lot of this I think may change if they can just hold out when we finally have a president smart enough to tie his own shoes and will get America truly re engaged in the peace process. American will power is essentil to keep the pressure on Israel to "play nice" What you are seeing is the result of 8 years of a total obsession with Iraq to the distraction of the remainder of the entire region. My hope is that the Obama administration will, while still being a strong ally to Israel, use a bit of "tough love" and force them to act like a civilized nation.

international press are now beginning to report from the Gaza region and are broadcasting images of collpased buildings, under which myriad people are known to be still buried.

Israel will undoubtedly withdraw citing victory in undermining Hamas resources and positions, but it is obvious that the only long term effect of this campaign, has been to ensure a future generation of orphans and widows, who will have little other reason for living than to exact revenge on the Israeli state.

the death toll is no where near totalled and this conflict's sustainence is more than assurred.

The thing that starts to worry me about this is the recent Bin Laden tape urging Gaza to join in Jihad against Israel. Which will lead to a pro-longed war, more dead civilians, and more dead soldiers.

really?

to be honest, i doubt a self promoting saudi playboy is going to influence the people of Gaza anymore than the IDF already has.

i know that OBL has been promoted as public enemy number one to those who suffer the sensationalisations of western news media; but to those who have lost people and property, i don't think they give him a moment's notice.

if anything, his speaking up now is more likely to earn him contempt as he obviously attempts to exploit the situation to promote his own cause.

this is not dissimilar to how we presume all those fighting in the middle east are allied to one another. we should bare in mind, that despite our fears of Irak following 9-11, Hussein pretty perceived AQ as being the enemy!

OBL has surprisingly few friends in his neck of the woods!

i know its just one of my concerns about whats happening, i mean if you were in water surrounded by sharks and some one offered to help you out, would you look at that person for who they are and if they really can help you, or would you accept the help to get out and get away from an un-winable battle?

I just think it may come to a point were its the final straw for gaza and they deside to join forces.

My fault. I didn't mean to interrupt the name-calling with my immaturity.

your analogy doesn't work on me, as i travel this world in an effort to be surrounded by sharks.

but to add a bit of shade and colour to your scenario....

what happens if the person fighting for their life in shark infested acqua saw their saviour, but instantly recognised that they were not to sort to be trusted, nor to hold any concern for anyone's ambitions for survival other than their own?

do you really presume that one situation which is little different to another, is an easy choice to make? besides, i thought Gazans were already enjoying a wealth of support from Egypt and our Iranian friends?
