FBI Report Confirms Iraq Had No WMD`s
What many of us on the left side of the aisle have been saying since this mess began in 2003 is becoming ever more confirmed with each passing day. A new FBI report which basically confirms what a lot of us have been saying about Iraq not having weapons of mass destruction, has been released. The big question from the pro war crowd out there has always been, " If he did`nt have WMD`s then why did he act like he had something to hide?" The answer, as many of us have speculated, turns out that he feared appearing weak to neighbors like Iran far more than he feared the U.N. or the U.S.A.

FBI says Saddam's weapons bluff aimed at Iran
Thu Jul 2, 2009 5:01am EDT
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Saddam Hussein believed Iran was a significant threat to Iraq and left open the possibility that he had weapons of mass destruction rather than appear vulnerable, according to declassified FBI documents on interrogations of the former Iraqi leader.
"Hussein believed that Iraq could not appear weak to its enemies, especially Iran," FBI special agent George Piro wrote on notes of a conversation with Saddam in June 2004 about weapons of mass destruction.
He believed Iraq was being threatened by others in the region and must appear able to defend itself, the report said.
The FBI reports, released on Wednesday, said Saddam asserted that he was more concerned about Iran discovering Iraq's weaknesses and vulnerabilities than the repercussions of the United States for blocking the return of UN weapons inspectors who were searching for WMD.
"In his opinion, the UN inspectors would have directly identified to the Iranians where to inflict maximum damage to Iraq," according to the documents obtained and released by the National Security Archive, a nongovernmental research institute.

Sadly though, the FOX news types out there still think we are going to find WMD`s. They come up with elaborate scenarios where they secretly shipped them to Syria. I talk to these people and they still are steadfastly telling everyone that there were in fact WMD`s. While this is a real "well duh" for most of us on this forum, there are a lot of Republicans who don`t get it. Hopefully, as more stories like this come out, they will begin to see what tools they have been to the Neocons who hijacked the Republican party.

The good thing with these types of small mistakes is that tens of thousands of civilians weren't killed, a country wasn't completely destabilized, a million people didn't become refugees and the lives of soldiers weren't sacrificed for nothing. Even better is that this kind of thing will never happen again. I'm sure most Iraqis would read that article and say, "Hey, no harm no foul, at least the people who started this whole thing didn't profit it."
And the moral of this story: Iran is evil

ha! an interesting take on this.
so it was deemed best for Iraq to suffer the benevolent form of death and destruction from an American origin.... rather than to suffer the evil smiting which would've inevitably come from those persian devil neighbours....?
nice one.
