Up until just over a year ago, I had no idea of the US and British involvement in the coup that essentially got rid of democracy in that country. Since then every time I see a bit of news or someone being interviewed and asked about Iran, I wonder how many actually know that? My guess that if you asked those Fox news reps and Rosie O'donnells out there, they probably wouldn't believe you and give you the classic Ann Coulter response, "I mean Canada sent troops to Vietnam - was Vietnam less containable and more of a threat than Saddam Hussein?"

Especially the way that 'democracy' is bandied around as being justification for an invasion and ongoing occupation. Interesting that two nations would use force to instill democracy in today's Iraq and yet used force in the past to remove it from Iran.

Same here. It is amazing how much is conveniently left out of our traditional history books that are taught in school. I couldn't believe it when I heard that the first time. It just seems unAmerican, even by the standards of the overbearing mother-in-law that is our foreign policy.

Yeah we do this everywhere. We backed Pinochet in Peru; a cold blooded dictator who tortured people. We also sold arms to Iran at the same time we were "allies" with Iraq during the Iran-Iraq war.

Here is a classic; Rumsfeld in 1983 chumming it up with Saddam after selling Iraq the very chemical weapons they used on Iran and the Khurds.

They are using the same rhetoric towards Iran that they used toward Iraq and the American people are buying it yet again. It must not happen!
