Ehud Olmert Pushes for an Attack on Iran
Well, here we go again. The rhetoric toward Iran is once again ratcheting up and the Condolizard has been whispering her threats again as of late. Well, as expected, the embattled "trying to save his own ass" Prime Minister Olmert is frantically trying to divert attention from his domestic troubles and scapegoat Iran. He is desperately seeking to convince Bush to preemptively strike Iran.

Pushing Bush to Attack Iran

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is expected to use his White House visit today to push President Bush to take a more aggressive approach toward Iran -- and there are some signs that he'll have a receptive audience.
Both Olmert and Bush are badly wounded and looking for salvation. Olmert is facing corruption allegations that could drive him from office. Bush is wildly unpopular, desperate to salvage his legacy and fighting irrelevance as the general election begins in earnest -- with even the Republican candidate trying to keep him at a distance.
It's in this environment that the Jewish Telegraph Agency reports: "Ehud Olmert will urge President Bush to prepare an attack on Iran, an Israeli newspaper reported."
Citing sources close to the Israeli prime minister, Yediot Achronot reported on its front page Wednesday that Olmert, who is due to hold closed-door talks with Bush in Washington, will say that 'time is running out' on diplomatic efforts to curb Iran's nuclear program.
"The United States should therefore prepare to attack Iran, Olmert will tell Bush, according to Yediot."

Iran: Another Perspective

It is interesting to note that Iran also has the largest thriving Jewish community in the entire Middle East outside of Israel. It makes one wonder how the pro war crowd will attempt to justify killing Jews and destroying Jewish holy places as somehow "protecting" Israel.

The timing is somewhat ironic, for the Senate Intelligence Report was just released today with a scathing review of what most of us already knew. Bush and Cheney knowingly misrepresented the intelligence to make their case for war. In short, they lied. Even though the election is mere months away I often wonder if we can make it to the end of this nightmare before they do something really, really stupid.
Quote:

Jon Perr at Perspectives breaks it down:
Four years after Kansas Senator Pat Roberts triumphantly cleared the Bush administration of misusing pre-war Iraq intelligence, the of the Senate Intelligence Committee he once chaired today reached a much different conclusion. After Roberts successfully stonewalled past the 2004 and 2006 elections the studies examining White House statements on the Iraqi threat and the role of the Pentagon’s Office of Special Plans, his successor Jay Rockefeller today concluded:
“The president and his advisers undertook a relentless public campaign in the aftermath of the attacks to use the war against Al Qaeda as a justification for overthrowing Saddam Hussein.”
While Democratic and Republican committee members battle it out over the implications of the Phase 2 report, Pat Roberts’ role in obstructing the investigation of the Bush administration’s uses - and misuses - of intelligence in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq is beyond dispute.
The world knew the Bush administration was lying all along, but it’s good to finally have a definitive record. Senator Pat Roberts did his level best to run interference for George Bush and unfortunately for him, he hitched his wagon to a falling star. Roberts was considered vulnerable in his home state of Kansas before the release of this report, and in a year of change and the demise of the GOP, this isn’t going to help. This doesn’t bode well for Senator John McCain either. He’s staked his whole candidacy on the failed Iraq debacle and he, along with the rest of the Republican candidates, will find it difficult to separate themselves from the disaster they helped to create

Kieth Olberman`s Countdown
So with this in mind, are we going to sit back and listen to this bullshit all over again and let this group of people try to launch yet another war based on lies? Iran is not Iraq, they are not a country coming out of 12 years of intense sanctions. They have a strong military and we are overstretched. If Iraq has been a disaster, Iran will make Iraq look like a walk in the park and rightly so. It is just plain wrong to even be entertaining the idea of war with Iran when we have not given diplomacy an honest try. I don`t mean Bush`s version of Diplomacy, I mean real diplomacy where Iran is shown respect and sincere effort to reach mutual agreements is put forth. Our schools, our media and our political system either teaches us nothing at all about Iran and America`s role in enflaming terrorism, or it is revisionist account of that history.

Shooting Down Iran Air Flight 655 [IR655]
Gathered & Edited By: Shapour Ghasemi, 2004
On July 3, 1988, Iran Air Flight 655 (IR655) was shot down by USS Vincennes on the Bandar Abbas-Dubai rout, which resulted in the loss of life of 290 innocent civilian from six nations including 66 children. There were 38 non-Iranians aboard.
On the morning of that disastrous day, the captain and crew of Flight 655 were at Bandar Abbas airfield in southern Iran, preparing for the second leg of their routine 150-mile flight over the Persian Gulf to Dubai. Flight 655 was a commercial flight operated by Iran Air that flew on a Tehran-Bandar Abbas-Dubai route.
The Airbus A300B2, registered EP-IBU, left Bandar Abbas at 10:17am that day, 27 minutes after its scheduled departure time of 09:50am. It would have been a 28-minute flight. At that same time, the U.S. Navy guided missile cruiser, USS Vincennes was nearby in the Strait of Hormuz, which the commercial airliner, flown by Captain Mohsen Rezaian, would pass over. USS Vincennes was stationed in the Persian Gulf during the Iran-Iraq war, U.S. presence was intended to escort and defend Kuwaiti oil tankers registered under the U.S. flag; and limit Iranian marine activities as well as the tightening of US imposed embargo against Iran. In command of Vincennes was Commander William C. Rogers III. At the time of the incident, Vincennes, in support of Operation Earnest Will, was within Iranian territorial waters, following combat with and pursuit of Iranian gunboats.
Like most modern aircraft, the Iranian airliner was equipped with an aircraft identification transponder, a modern form of the old "identification, friend or foe" (IFF) system of World War II. When interrogated by a radar signal from a potential adversary, the transponder "squawks" (gives off a specific response signal) in a prespecified, fixed mode.

How about plain english?
Anyhow, the point is that Olmert is trying to pressure the United States into a preemptive strike agains Iran. This is complete madness and we need to make sure out Representatives do everything possible to prevent theis madman from doing it. The rhetoric being used by them is a redux of the Iraq war buildup.

i am pretty sure that on that other forum, i replied to it. and so i wonder if it would be beneficial (pro) or detrimental (con) to this thread, or simply not worth me (value) going to that other thread and copying my response from there, to paste in here

anyhow....
this is a none story.
america hasn't got the resources nor the inclination to go and fight a battle on another front (let alone with a nation able to defend itself);
and Ohlmert is simply trying to promote his image to his population, as being someone with friends in high places. and so they must forgive his dishonesties and corruptions, because the defense of their entire state is reliant upon his mates in the whitehouse.

Hahaha...Sorry, I was a little blonde this morning... Gotcha now. Yeah, I think shit like this has become so commonplace these days that unless a nuke goes off somewhere, people are`nt going to be bothered by taking notice. After all, how can something boring like world affairs compete with American Idol.....

I think Iran will be left alone as long as they dont try and indicate any type of nuclear weaponry. I really believe they want it for domestic purposes.

I love all the impeach Bush speech. You people do realize who becomes president if you impeach Bush right? And no, you can't impeach both the president and the vice president at the same time.
As for Iran and Israel, I say let Israel nuke iran. It's about damn time we got WWIII going anyway. During which I can begin my plan for world domination. Special bonus, I'd wait until the ME nukes the shit out of itself (with help from the rest of the world I'm sure) THEN take over the world. Then you'd never have to worry about another ME war. It's made of glass!
Don't worry about the oil either, drills can go sideways too.
