Our best bet is to move forward and stop dwelling on the past. There's nothing to change in the past, only the future.
We redeem ourselves with our future actions.

Sorry Mooz,
I am not as convinced of this and I feel that you are mistaken in one point. The world does care; way more than we do. All one needs to do is take the time to read foreign media and talk to citizens of other nations around the globe. America`s actions in both economic as well as foreign policy terms have such a huge impact on all other nations that they care a great deal. Right now, America has the highest disapproval rating in the history of the Republic. Most Europeans were willing to forgive the mistake of electing the piece of crap the first time, but to re elect him for second term was unforgivable. It is going to take a lot more than simply "not dwelling in the past and moving on" to get our global partners to trust us again. Impeaching Bush and Cheney not to mention Rumsfeld will count for something even if it mostly a symbolic action.
I do agree with you on one and only one point; Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld will most likely never serve time. People in those positions have plenty of friends in high places and I see a pardon being issued. Maybe if they show their ugly mugs in a foreign country they might not make it home and that would be a good thing. Germany has issued an arrest warrant for Cheney and so have 2 towns in Vermont not to mention several groups of veterans and active duty military groups.
Americans are so ignorant of their own system and it`s recent history. We would rather "move on" and just pretend it did`nt happen. As it is, half of the adults in this country can`t even find Iraq on a world map and half don`t even know who is the current vice president. Sadly, aboriginals in the Australian Outback know more about international affairs and current events than the average American; who is just too bored by politics to give a shit. They will spend hours every night watching Entertainment Tonight, Extra, American Idol and Friends though. That kind of attitude is why we keep repeating the same ignorant and destructive mistakes over and over again.
All one needs to do is "dwell in the past" long enough to gain a little education about our actions in the middle east to understand that we are as guilty for creating the current environment of global terrorism as the "bad guys". But oh no, let`s just forget it and "move on".
Before terrorism, we found ourselves being duped into the McCarthyism boogie man of the 50`s with the "Red Scare" which manipulated the American sheeple into the Korean and Vietnam wars. Since we obviously did`nt want to "dwell in the past and move on" we forgot that lesson and here we are in yet another quagmire with no idea how to extricate ourselves and already we are being urged to "get over it, don't dwell in the past and move on"
Hmmmm....the very definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing over and over and over again, expecting different results. Maybe we might try thinking outside the box this time and actually spend a moment reflecting on the past and taking action to prevent if from happening again, but I guess that is just too much to expect out of the dumb ass American sheeple.
I say good on Dennis Kusinich for doing what he is doing. I respect him for having the courage to stand up and say what he did on the House floor. Again the shortness on America`s memory is once again evident. He has been leading the charge for several years and he brought the impeachment of Dick Cheney to the floor only to have his cowardly compatriots roll over out of fear of rocking the boat and making Republicans mad. Had Nanci Pelosi done her job and not rolled over on her back and pissed all over herself out of fear of Republican outrage, maybe we could have effected the changes 3 years ago and already be ahead on the progress to restoration.
Okay, I need to correct myself, I agree with you on another point...I am just as sick of most of the people in congress as you, but for a different reason I suspect. There are many douches in congress, but Kusinich is`nt one of them, the real douches are the ones who advocate doing nothing and letting bygones be bygones.
Too many people advocate not "dwelling in the past" and think the rest of the world does`nt care. The whole combined world is ready to open a bottle of bubbly over the possibility of Barack Obama becoming our next president but sadly thanks to attitudes like this, McCain will quite possibly win and when the same lies and false propaganda tactics are used to lie us into a war with Iran, people will fall for it again and when reminded of the recent past in Afghanistan and Iraq, they will scream "move on" and stop "dwelling in the past".
We have the government we deserve and if it`s too much to ask of the American people to actually put forth the minimal effort to get a clue and become engaged, then maybe it is time for our nation to cease to exist. Perhaps flying the flag of China will make people care and look to the past to see where we let it slip from our hands. Our Republic was a gift from our founding fathers that most American`s obviously don`t deserve!
