Default Your Favorite Reporter

Who is your favorite news reporter and what station are they on. With ALL the media thats out there certainly there are credible and non credible reporters, broadcasts etc...certain ones u trust, certain ones...ehhhhhhh

In the old day I was a big Tom Brokaw fan. I always trusted Tom. I also like Martin Fletcher who reports from the field. And I loved Bernard Goldberg Bernie was right there!!!!

an incredible thread regarding 'style over substance'.

i am bemused that the content is so easy to overlook, in preference for dwelling on the talking head delivering it, that one might determine a 'favourite'.

i can trust / favour not a single one station / channel / outlet, let alone an individual on their pay roll.

i watch sky news for flashes, as they have the dosh to be everywhere first; i then acquire further detail (as opposed to regurgitation of headlines) from BBC news, before gaining 'fact' from reuters and associated press.

after time, if interest is sustained, i look for alternative perspectives from Press TV (iran), Euronews (which is french), RT (russian), CCN (china) and Al Jazeera (saudi).

I too don't have a favourite, delivery doesn't mean a whole lot to me and I don't think they have much control over the stories. Paolo's comprehensive list of media sources is a great example of how to find out the true nature of an event, or at least a much better understanding than what you would gleen from going to a couple of Western media sites. I'll have to check out the Russian and China sites as I've never used them as resources before.

with regard to my media outlets of choice..... all i would say is, when considering your satellite telly packages, choose the modules carefully!

the chinese outlet made for a very interesting case study in censorship; when everyone else was reporting the olympic torch fiascos the world over, the chinese were cherry picking like crazy, to portray a unified globe of support.

and russia too, instead of dwelling as we might expect, on US missile silos in poland etc.... are more concerned with Georgia and Chechnya etc and their ongoing 'uprisings, which we in the west have long since forgotten about. but i recently saw a documentary regarding a self sustaining village of people; sounds reasonable you might think that people are allowed to turn their backs on a consumeristic soceity.... but all village inhabitants, were mentally retarded and so the piece whilst trying to sound 'positive', came across as sinister segregation!

Press Tv are as partisan as you might expect from a downtrodden nation, which isn't to suggest they are merely speaking for the governing regime, but are sincerely airing the view of the populace.

and good old AJ, strangely remain the most impartial (but what do i really know) and persist as ever, to air the images and reportage other, more main stream outlets have little stomach to produce.

you have to cast your net wide my friends!

I can't help but take notice whenever Lara Logan shows up on 60 Minutes. That's probably the news program I respect the most, and even though she's not the toughest interview out there it's not hard to see why she's popular...
